Rottweiler saving boy a surprise?

On My Yahoo, everyday I have a dog tip. This was today's. I can't tell if the author is incredulous that a dog saved a boy (hasn't s/he ever seen Lassie?) or that a Rottweiler saved the boy. Just want to know what you guys think.

Dog tip of the day from My Yahoo.com

Dog Saves Boy

Once a newscast reported that a pet Rottweiler saved a three-year old boy in a cold Florida forest. What might have prompted this behavior?

Veterinarian behaviorist Soraya Juarbe-Diaz says that in the wild, dogs live in packs and will instinctively help each other. In the Florida case, where a boy and his Rottweiler were lost in the woods, the dog itself was probably cold and huddled with the boy for warmth.

It was the dog's instincts to protect the interest of the pack that saved the boy's life.

I remember this story..they were lost in the Ocala National Forest and the press down here definitely made it sound as if the dog was purposefully sheltering the little boy....it was curled completely around him...just another vicious, childeating rottie:p

I agree that it seems like the author was amazed that one of our "child killers" would do something like that. Can't complain, though. . .at least it was a good Rottweiler article. :)

Although it was some good press it could have been written better, the article almost sounded like the Rott probably did it to keep himself warm. Well, I say BS! That Rottie loved that child and would do anything in his power to save him--that is what well trained, loved Rotties do for their families.
