Re: USRC Select / BST show in Ohio

Looks like we're going to have a heated building about 50 yards away from the outside show ring to take the chill off some folks.

What goes on in these shows? We live close enough to Columbus that we may try going and watching. IS it outside? Inside? Do we need to bring chairs? Anything else we need to know or do? TIA

It is an outside sieger (german style) show. Yes, bring chairs. If you go to the USRC website, it has sections on there that will explain the show in more detail. The judge critiques each dog out loud, and each owner will get a copy of the full critique. It is a conformation show, where dogs are judged according to the standard. Dogs are walked and ran a lot in the ring. Very different than the AKC shows.

Re: USRC Select / BST show in Ohio

Hey rainstorm,

It is a conformation show. One of the differences you'll notice immediately is the size of the ring. A USRC ring can be around 35 yards x 40 yards, compared to an AKC obedience ring being 40 x 50 ft. (Not sure of the size of an AKC conformation ring.) Professional handlers aren't nearly as prevalent in USRC and neither is dressy attire. USRC handlers do too much running to wear high heels or dress shoes. Double handling is allowed at USRC shows and dogs aren't hand stacked. They are 'free' stacked instead typically with someone standing outside the ring baiting the dog with a ball, toy or something else to attract the dog.

You should come and watch!!!!! You will probably meet some very nice people and it's great to spend the day being immersed in Rotties! Just be careful. You may get bitten by the 'bug' and want to start showing yourselves

I think my dd, Aimee, and I will try to drive up for this show. It sounds really interesting and maybe I'll make some new friends.

Rainstorm,

I hope you can make it. The weather forecast doesn't look too bad. My puppy is entered in the females, 6-9months. I am planning on wearing a creme/tan sweatshirt with a deer on it. Make sure you tell me hi!!!!

Re: USRC Select / BST show in Ohio

It was a GREAT (although a little cold) show. Hope everybody had a super time. Thanks to all the club members and friends who helped put it on, and thanks to everybody who came. The heated barn next to the show site was a very popular hangout spot.

Re: USRC Select / BST show in Ohio

It indeed was a good show. However, it was more than 'a little cold'. At noon, there was a thin layer of ice over my dog's water and it was in the sunshine. I passed one bank that morning and it said it was 18 degrees!!!! At first, I cussed having to park so far away from the ring. Later, that walk warmed me up. The food was great and a wide variety was offered. The building and tables provided a wonderful place to eat in. The fire at the patio up by the house was a nice place to get warm and meet new friends. The show was well run. The ring steward did a nice job keeping things moving and directing exhibitors in the ring. Mrs. Ang shared her knowledge freely and was very approachable. She explained her placings thoroughly and I am sure if there was anyone there new to Rottweilers or showing, they learned a lot. A few things that I would have changed: not having to pay to park (especially considering it was held on private ground and I was an exhibitor), a larger ring, and parking area closer to show ring.

Truthfully, I wasn't in favor of the "pay to park" either, but I was outvoted. Some club members said they had to pay to park at several other shows. I know I've had to pay at a couple. Your concerns are valid, and I know for a fact that we already have a REALLY nice new area picked out for our show next year. We have applied to USRC to host a special event last year, but I can't say much more until we are given approval.

Skip,

Thank you for your reply! Really sorry you were outvoted. The 'paying to park' was a common topic of discussion around the fire. Most folks said they rarely had to pay for parking at a show.

Will your show next year also be held in December or some other time of year? I can't show again until at least summer and would love to come to another show held by your club.

I was just notified earlier today that our club will be hosting the USRC SCHUTZHUND NATIONALS this year! We will also be having a conformation show on the same weekend. I believe it's scheduled for sometime in october...can't remember the exact date, will double check and post it.
