Health clinic - Newtown, CT July 24, 2005

The Newtown Kennel Club will be offering their annual health clinic on Sunday, July 24th. I went to this last year and it was beatifully run and not too far off the Interstate. I know it filled quickly and early last year, so if you're interested, be sure you get your entry in soon!

Cardiac screening:
$25 for auscultation
$175 for color flow doppler
Dr. Aaron Wey, DACVIM Cardiology, Latham, NY
Testing meets requirements for OFA certification
Age: over 12mos to receive OFA certification (younger dogs are allowed)
Bring: Copy of AKC registration, Tattoo or chip # information

CERF:
$28
Dr. Charles Stuhr Animal Eye Clinic Wilton, CT
Age: At least 7 weeks
Bring: Copy of AKC registration, Tattoo or chip # (required for CERF reg), copy of prior exam if abnormal

Microchip:
$28 -- Additional $9 to register with AKC's Companion Animal Recovery
(These are normally $40 at my vet!!!, and it's normally $12.50 to register)
Home Again chips are used.

Thyroid test:
$48
(If OFA, seperate check made out to OFA, $7.50/dog)
Complete panel & analysis from Michigan State. Meets requirements for OFA certification.
Age: Over 12mos for OFA certification. Results in 4 weeks

DNA:
$35
AKC's DNA certification program. You will receive a DNA certificate from AKC in about 6-8 weeks.

It really is......they "take over" a veterinary clinic for the weekend.

They also offer BAER testing (for deafness) for $40, Heartworm testing ($14) and Optigen testing (if they get 20 participants, they offer 20% off Optigen testing....not sure what that's all about). VERY thorough!

I'm wishing Xcel were a tad older, as we could get his "official" certs done (he won't be 12mos until 8/21). Depending on how the baby is, when Vik needs to be bred, etc, I may head down with 3 dogs.
