Thumbs up Xena

Just a quick message to let you know we had to have Xena put to sleep tonight. She had completely given up on life, she would not eat and all she wanted to do was just lay there, eventually over the last 2 days her back legs got weaker and she was unable to support herself on them today so I made the dreaded call to the vets. She actually looked thankfull when we were at the vets as I'm sure she knew she was going to a better place. Even though her body made the decision for us it still didn't make it any easier when the time came. I'm sure alot of you have been through this before and can share the pain we are going through. We took Rio to see her body when we brought her back from the vets just to give her some closure too. We've had 10 wonderfull years with her and I have many good memories of her that I can look back on fondly once the pain has eased a little. Now I just have to concentrate on easing the pain a bit for Rio. Thanks to everyone who has posted support. I have found this site to be invaluable since Xena was diagnosed.

Re: Dealing with Cancer

I am so sorry for your loss. It is the most difficult and painful decision we ever have to make about our babies, but she is now free from pain and playing at the bridge until you meet again. RIP Xena

Re: Dealing with Cancer

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Xena. As you probably know, my Lucas was PTS the other day as well. We knew it was time as he also refused to eat and his back legs gave out. He would lay in the same spot all day if we didn't hoist him up to go outside or upstairs to bed. The cancer eats away at their muscle mass and weakens their muscles.

I will keep you in my prayers. Healing from grief takes time....but you did what was right for your girl. Godspeed Xena....play with my Lucas for me. Laurie

I'm so sorry to hear this. You did so much for your sweet girl. Ten years is a long time, but unfortunately it is never enough. Xena was so lucky to have such a caring family. RIP sweet Xena.

Re: Xena

I am so sorry to hear about Xena. I followed her story as well. I know how you are feeling as both my boys bodies gave out in the end. They stayed and were brave as long as they could for us. It was now up to us to do for them. Xena had a wonderful life and loving family. She had a full life and I am sure a heart full of memories. God lead you to the bridge where you are whole again and with very good company. Play hard girl. Debbie
