Ralphie

My husband and I think the pugs (we have 5) are just now beginning to miss Ralphie. They did, of course, torment him. He was so gentle and patient with them even when he wasn't feeling well...they were his personal dental hygienists and coat cleaner. LOL He let them sit on him, lick on him, just about anything until we would step in and give the fellar some relief. His favorite--his little sister--Bobbie Beans, he would let her eat out his dinner bowl with him (for a modest little sniff you-know-where). It's memories like these that replace the moments of pain, albeit briefly.

I'm sorry to hear about Ralphie.

I've always loved this little "poem". It was written about a horse, but if you substitute the word "dog" for "horse", the meaning is the same.

We who choose to surround ourselves with lives more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan. The life of a horse, often half our own, seems endless until one day. Hang on to those memories -- they will help more and more with the pain as time passes. They are never with us long enough. My Rottie girl is 12, my horses are 23 and 28.

Your family and Ralphie were fortunate to have each other. He's still keeping an eye on all of you, while he's meeting some wonderful new friends (I'm sure that same sniffing goes on at the Bridge).

Cleo is doing the same. The first little bit it didn't seem to bother her but now whenever the door opens she goes running or when she hears us say his name she will run to the back door, wait and whine a bit.

I too understand those brief moments that let you forget the pain and emptiness of losing our beloved pets.
Thinking of you and wishing for you many more moments of happy memories.
