| My Best Friend Cody This thread is for anyone who is facing a Splenectomy. My boy Cody hasn't been acting right for a couple of days. I brought him in my vet who has been great to Cody for almost 11 years, and I had complete trust in. Friday March 21 he had the first vet visit. On that visit he said that his spleen had enlarged 15 times the normal size. The Dr told me not to worry we caught it in the nic of time, So we had gone home after he took some blood to prep for the surgery and i had to bring him back at 12 tomorrow. Cody was fine all night long. Then we both woke up there was blood comming out of his private part. So I had called my vet and explained that to him. The Dr had told me it couldn't wait until 12, I rushed him to the hosiptal while the Dr was awaiting his arrival. The Splenectomy went great..... He stayed in the hospital all day and night saturday with no problems. The Dr said I would be able to take him home on sunday late afternoon, so I had done so. When he got home he was the same dog as he had always been. It shocked me that so short after the surgery he was back in action. I kept laying down with him so he would get his rest. Sunday night went great with once again no problems. Today (Monday) at around 8am,he did his normal lick me in the morning bec he had to go outside. I got up to let him out and he peed for about one minute as he always did in the morning. Wow..... I was thinking with a tear in my eye, he made it......... Well, he came inside and i took the water out of the fridge and started pouring it into his bowl and Cody was right there drinking it. I had taken a piece of cheese out when took the water out. He came right over to me when he saw the cheese and he wouldn't eat it. I knew something wrong right at that minute, So I ran and got dressed with whatever I found at that time. Cody was on the floor breathing real heavy and laying on the floor. Rushed him back to the Dr office and he had heart problems, it wasn't beating the correct way. The Dr ran some more blood as I had started to make my mind what I was going to do so he didn't have to suffer. The Dr had told me lets give Cody Iv and maybe some blood, and wait 2 hours. One hour later Cody had taken his last breath on his own. I feel like someone has taken my heart and stabbed it a few hundred times. I wouldn't have posted this but I feel if you might have to face something like this you should know. RIP Cody 7-11-97 to 3-24-08 |

| Re: My Best Friend Cody Poor dear Cody. I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our old boy Guinness about a month after his 11th birthday. He had been diagnosed with a whopper of a tumor on his spleen, just like you had with Cody. We didn't have the splenectomy, so the details of Guinness's last days are different than Cody's - but the loss of our dear big boy felt exactly like you describe the feeling of losing Cody. I remember how quiet the house seemed that night without my best freind's paw prints and snoring. You might want to put Cory's picture in the Rainbow Bridge section as well as here. I think you'll find a lot of rottweiler people there who would like to see his picture and give him a proper goodbye. Rest easy, Mr. Cory dog. Lynda |

| Re: My Best Friend Cody This is so heartbreaking. Eleven great years with him is wonderful. Unfortunately it is never long enough. So sorry for what you had to go through. You took great care of him right up until the end. You two were so lucky to have had each other. Sending thoughts and hugs. RIP Cody. |

| Re: My Best Friend Cody I am so very sorry for the loss of Cody. It sounded like you did all that you could for him and that he couldn't have asked for a more loving person to have owned him. My heart is really breaking for you and i had tears in my eyes reading what happened. He was a very handsome looking boy. Cody, fly high with the angels, you were loved very much. ~*sending you a hug*~ Trina
