Just lost our girl 3 days short of 11 years old

We just made the hardest decision that faces a loving owner, on Mar 13, 2008 we had to put our girl to rest just days short of her 11th birthday. We are of course blaming ourselfs, why didn't we see this coming or what could we have done differently could we have saved her. After all the lab work and x-rays came back the vet told us that we could risk taking her to a special hospital and spend thounsands of dollars on her treatment but she wouldn't make it because she was in total body failure. He told us that it was just a matter of days and she would sufficate to death so we couldn't have her in anymore pain and decided to do what we felt she wanted. She was such a strong and loyal member of the family never even hurt a fly even when in pain she wouldn't nip or whin she was just holding on trying to make sure her pack would be all right. This is the greatest pain i have ever felt i feel like part of my heart is missing.

Please, please please don't blame yourself!! Your girl made it to 11 which is wonderful. Ailments in senior dogs come on so fast. Especially in this breed. You and your girl had a wonderful life together and you did the right thing by not making her suffer. It is so hard to lose our wonderful companions, but she is now in a better place.

What a beautiful girl......I can see what a treasure she's been for you and I'm so sorry she had to go. Don't blame yourselves, it was likely a blessing that it all happened so quickly, for her and for you. It still hurts terribly, though.

We just put our Bear to rest last week as well.
These darn beasts , you get so attached to them. Never been so attached to an animal before.

Please do not blame yourself!!! You did a wonderful job getting her to the age she was. The senior dogs do get ill fast, and there would have been nothing you could do even if you had seen it coming... I lost my first one two months after her 11th birthday. You did the right thing to release her from her illness. She's a wonderful Rottie angel to watch over you until you can be together again.

i am so, so sorry for your loss! i recently lost my best friend aswell. be assured you did the right thing! it's something none of us should ever have to through. she's in a better place now, i truely believe that. best wishes to you and your family.

I am so very truly sorry that you had to make the same decision we did...just last week. Our Zeus was thought to have bone cancer that was in his right rear hock. The vet told us this on the 8th of February and on March 10th we had to send him to the bridge. He had lost 24# in that short amount of time. It hasn't even been a week and I feel like I haven't seen or pet him in forever. I tried to savor every last moment I could with him. But the same as you, we just couldn't let him suffer anymore. He was 4 days shy of being 8 1/2. It has always just been me, my fiance Dwyane and our boy Zeus. I miss him terribly, our house feels so empty and all I can tell myself is that we did the right thing. I am here for you if you need to talk. I wish I knew myself how to get past this. I will pray for you and that you get the strength you need to survive. My heart goes out to you.

For those of you who asked her name we named her suzy but one day called her girl and it just stuck forever. Or when she would take her ball in her mouth and toss her head from side to side and give a little buff we would call her our little saucy silly girl. One of my fondest memories of her is when she would stand at the top of the stairs and look down at me and all the skin on her face would wrinkle up it was the cuttest thing i ever saw. And i'll never forget how she would take her huge paws and hit my leg when she wanted more lovings. I know only time will help to heal this wound but i will forever have her in my heart untill the day i can once again hold her in my arms and feel her huge tounge giving me kisses again.
