I just lost my Friend of 13 years.

i found out 3 weeks ago that my best friend Baron had osteo sarcoma (bone cancer) it's a week yesterday i had to have the vet come and put him to rest.

my wife and i have no kid's and Baron is everything to us! i just don't know how we're going to get through this. i can't even make it through a day wthout loosing it. it's a pain like no other! he was the best!!!! loving beautifull rotti, and not an agressive bone in his body.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet and precious friend. He was a lucky boy to have had you both. He had unconditional love and only knew the hands and hearts of kindness. I can just tell that he had the best food, treats, toys and vet care available. You were both blessed to have such a relationship.
I do understand how you feel. We lost our heart dog,Sheena Marie, in 04. I don't think there will ever be another rottie girl that I could love in the same way. I still miss her and think about her every day. The difference now is, I laugh and smile when I remember her instead of crying. I knew I had given her a wonderful life and loved her as a daughter. That concept did help me. To honor her memory, when the time seemed right, I got another girl. I love Lola as much but in very different ways.
You made a brave and generous decision to help your boy cross over. The pain will get better I promise you that.

I am so very sorry for the loss of you friend Baron. He sounded like he had a wonderful life with 2 loving 'parents'. That hard decision you made was best for your boy, he's no longer in pain. Its the kindest gift you could have given him.

I know first hand what you are going through, i had my best friend Magnum laid to rest on Oct 17, 2002 from osteosarcoma. We too had no children and he was our baby, my first rotty, and like Lola B Marie said, my Heart Dog.... When i had him pts my heart literally broke. I cried constantly. On the 1 year anniversary of his passing i broke down, same with the 2nd. It has gotten easier as the years go by, I still miss him terribly but he is with me
in my memories and in pictures. I also had him cremated and he is in my bedroom (only a dog person would understand).

I have another dog now Jett (a female) who i adore, she is not Magnum but she is the first rotty that i have felt that connection to again. I dont know if its got to do with the passing of time (6 years in Oct) or the fact that she is a female, but it just feels right.

Your pain will ease in time, you are grieving now and what you are feeling is normal. You will go through all of the emotions - sadness, loss, anger and frustration and eventually your pain will become less and you will only have with you the happy memories of one special dog.

Baron, may you fly high with the angels.

thank you for the wonderfull thoughts and wishes. tonite is going to be tough. it's the one week aniversary of his passing, and to top the day off, the vet called a little while ago saying his ashes are ready to be picked up. needless to say the the wife's a mess as am i. its so comforting to have the oportunity to talk to people that can truely relate. thank you!

I am so, so sorry for your loss. You have definitely come to the right place for support. This forum and a pet loss book has helped me more than anything. We had our boy, Bear, put to sleep 3 weeks ago today. There has not been a day that has gone by that I haven't lost it, but it is and will get better. We look at his pictures and can now laugh and cry at the same time because he could be so silly. I am going to make a scrapbook soon.

Picking up the ashes was difficult for me too. When I walked in and they asked if they could help me, I just broke down and told them what I was there for. It was comforting to know that at least I did have him home again. Some people just don't understand how important your pet can be to you. They are family members and the grief can be just as strong as losing a human family member.

Again, you have come to the right place for support and understanding. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. RIP Baron

Oh, I am so sorry. The cancers that riddle our breed take so many. Thirteen years although long for a rottie, is never long enough for a faithful friend and family member.

if it will direct your mind to something else, get a puppy rott to continue her legacy..i know how hard this is..havent lost a rott yet, but had to put my favorite cat in which was rescued and I only had him for a few months but was my most favorite cat ive ever had and i have cats ive had for 6 years..i cried for days....still to this day if i look at pictures i will cry my eyes out..he didnt deserve it =(

I am soo very sorry for your loss. I know the pain as I just said good bye to my Tasha last week. Try to keep yourself busy and though the pain will always be there, knowing that your baby is not in anymore pain, may make it a little easier. until you are all together once again, stay strong !!

Oh man....my heart goes out to you. We just lost our Zeus to bone cancer too. We sent him to the bridge last Monday and it feels like forever since I have seen or felt him. We too are in the same situation as you. It has always just been me, my fiance Dwyane and Zeus. We don't have any kids either. It has been this way over 8 years and now I feel so lost. Our house is soooo empty and quiet. I am just hoping each day gets easier and I keep telling myself we did the right thing. He had lost 24# since February 8th. We had no choice and didn't want him to suffer anymore. I pray that strength finds you. I am here to talk to as I am lost too. RIP our sweet fuzzy Angels.....
