Buckshot's Journey Has Ended

I am still in a daze as last evening I had to release our beloved Buckshot (10y 10mo) to run free across the Bridge. Just a week and a half ago he was diagnosed with a torn acl, yesterday they said that his body was emitting blood clots... His leg with the torn acl was dead from the knee down. Also on the opposite back leg, his foot was also dying. He was becoming anemic very quickly and they were unsure of where the clots were coming from. They offered a referral to VA Tech, but stated the only thing Tech would be able to do was offer an answer, at his age and as quickly he was declining, only a miracle would save him.

I am thankful for the time we had with him, however we all know it is always too short. He was one of the most perfect examples of what a Rottweiler is. I always will say, everyone thinks their dog is great, however when others say the same is when it truely means something.

My daughter and I stayed with him until the end. Even with all of his pain and loss of feeling, he walked proudly in the room and layed loyally out our feet. He will be sorely missed and always remembered and loved.

Re: Buckshot's Journey Has Ended

I am truely sorry for your loss. I don't know Buckshot, but he must have been a great dog. Your right in that everyone thinks thier dog is great. To have others say the same about your dog is priceless and what makes him special.

This Thanksgiving I spent with other family members and friends. Everyone wanted to talk about Daisy. What a good dog she was. It amazes me how much she has impacted those who came in contact with her. I am not sure if you had those moments with others yet. It was very comforting to know Daisy was loved my many and they saw what I saw. When those moments happen you will know what I mean. As much as I wanted to cry I wanted to smile.

May God comfort you and give you strenght.
Diane

I am so very sorry for your loss, so very sorry. I hope you find consolation in knowing Buckshot lived the best life he possibly could have lived because he was treasured by you.

Re: Buckshot's Journey Has Ended

It is always wonderful to hear about a Rottie Family that experiences that special Rottie Love. Part of that love, as diffucult as it is, is finding the strength to set them free from earthly boundaries when it is time...and you very bravely did that....and know that he will eternally be grateful for your act of love and mercy.
You were blessed to have shared your lives, althought it never does seems long enough. Now your Buckshot has gone on in peace...to wait till you are reunited. Out of site but never gone from your heart.
We all feel and understand your sorrow.
RIP Buckshot

I too lost my dog, so I know what you are going through. Pretty soon you will be able to look at his pictures without tears. Right now you must grieve his peaceful death. Its a shame that these sweet animals don't live long enough. I truly understand your sorrow.

I am so very sorry for your pain. I love it when others tell of how great their rotties are and how others compliment them on their behavior.
Buckshot was a great ambassador for the breed.
I know you miss him terribly, and that decision must be awful to make, but you know it was the right one, and Buckshot can run full of energy, happy and free from pain.
I will be thinking of you.

Always,

Sharon

Re: Buckshot's Journey Has Ended

You gave your beloved friend the dignity and love he deserved as he left for his new adventures at the bridge. His kind and generous spirit will always be in your hearts. We lost our heart dog Sheena Marie, in 04. I know how difficult it is to say good bye especially around the holidays. Sheena died two days before Thanksgiving that year.
Sorry doesn't even cover what I want to say to you and how sad I feel for your family.
Just know that your boy is in wonderful company. I have asked Sheena to find him and show him the way.
RIP sweet boy!

Re: Buckshot's Journey Has Ended

This is my first post, and I am not even sure how to do this yet :-) . I feel really, really sorry for your loss. It is such a sad thing to lose a member of the family. We lost our Bullmastiff in August at age 11, and then our first Rottweiler puppy at 12 weeks due to a g.i. issue. Sad.
It is never easy, whether it is when they are young or old. Just remember that you had many, many great years together. Some people NEVER ever find that companionship and love.
After my boy died, I found this plaque that said: Don't Cry Because it's Over, Smile Because it Happened. -Dr. Seuss Everytime I go into the "dog room", I see that sign hanging over their pictures.
Be sad, cry, and then remember to be grateful. That's what gets me through it. Remember everything they taught YOU, and why you are a better person today. It just takes time.

Re: Buckshot's Journey Has Ended

Everyone's kind and reassuring words are so appreciated. I am fortunate to have people who understand that special place each one of our furry friends fills and the void that is there when they are not.

Thanks again and God Bless each of you.

Thumbs up Re: Buckshot's Journey Has Ended

We are really sorry for your loss, we know how big is the empty place leave behind by our old best friends. I am sure that Buckshot's was a great family dog as a real Rottweiller. Please accept our condoleances.
