Bruce the Moose

It has been 3 months since our Bruce boy died. He was taken from us much too soon. He was only 5 months old when he died and I think of what he would look like if he was still here all the time. At times, it still feels like a bad dream....a nightmare. Sometimes, I still look for him in the backyard. My mind knows he is not ever going to be there, but my heart yearns for him. We don't know why his life was so short, but we do know that he brought us so much love and joy and we were truly blessed to be his mom and dad for 3 months!
Being a teacher I am always looking at children's literature. There is a great book called "Dog Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant. It's a really sweet book that I read often.

Re: Bruce the Moose

It is extremely difficult when a beloved pet dies..especially when they are so very young. I understand your feelings of loss and know what you mean..I still catch myself thinking of my boy as if he was still here with me. (passed 1 yr ago) Know that your baby is well cared for by all who have gone before.
Sunny days filled with puppy games at the rainbow bridge for you brave little Bruce the Moose.
RIP precious one.

That is too soon, and I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure your boy is being taken good care of by all the other Rottie Angels.

Re: Bruce the Moose

I am so sorry - 5 months is SO young - this poem has always comforted me:

"Gone From My Sight
by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

And that is dying...

Death comes in its own time, in its own way.
Death is as unique as the individual experiencing it."

Again - I am so sorry for your loss

I am very sorry for your loss of such a young boy! For whatever reason he is with the angels now and they will take good care of him. Bruce the Moose fly high baby boy. It is a terrible loss for all of us but one so young is so sad. God Bless, Debbie Ervin

I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's hard enough to loose a pet when they have made it through the years with you, but at such a young age so unexepected and already they have a piece of your heart. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Re: Bruce the Moose

I too lost my Roxie recently, not as young as your Bruce, but 3 1/2. No matter the how and why, its not easy losing a pet that has been by your side. They are innocent of malace. My dog had fear aggression, but when she was sweet she was very sweet. No one can explain the reason for a death but know that you cared a lot for your Bruce in the short time he was with you. You gave him quality time. I hope you took a lot of pictures. They really help. You can even get a DVD made up so you can see pictures of him as a slide show. You will never forget him, but you will be able to manage and move on day by day, bit by bit.
