Reputable source for an urn

Since the loss of our boy, I've been looking at pet urns. The urn he is in now is a simple tin, which I would like to replace.

I really like the urns made of wood that have a place for a photo and small engraveable name plate. I was overwhelmed by the number of sources revealed by a Google search. Typically I like to give my business to Drs. Fosters & Smith, but they have a very limited selection.

Do any of you have recommended suppliers and/or experiences to share about your urn shopping? As you know, this is an important decision and I would like to avoid additional grief dealing with a shady supplier.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Reuptable source for an urn

Unfortunately, I've only ever gotten my pets' urns from the cremation company. You might want to check with your vet, though. My vet has a catalog, but has a habit of not informing pet owners.

The only reason I know they have one is because I told a fellow customer that there are urns they can buy and one of the vet techs overheard me. Suddenly out comes the catalog.

I went to Pet Urns, Pet Cremation Urns, Pet Memorials, Dog Urns and Cat Urns – Angel Ashes for my poodle's urn. Not sure of how many styles they have, but the one I got is a solid maple box, with silver (could be brass/gold too) nameplate and a small poodle figurine on top. It's very nice and it came quickly.

Re: Reuptable source for an urn

On Thanksgiving Day it will be one year that my Raven passed away. I too was overwhelmed with urn choices and like you wanted the wood with photo and engraving. I found some very nice ones from Snowy Pines Pet Memorials. This is the link to the site: Pet Memorials, Pet Memorial, Pet Urns, Pet Urn, Pet Photo Urns, Pet Photo Urn, Urns, Urn, Dog Urns, Dog Urn, Cat Urns, Cat Urn, Pet Cremation Urns, Pet Cremation Urn, Pet Cremation Urns, Photo Urns, Photo Urn, Cremation urn, Personalized Pet Urn, Cus
They have a very good selection and choices of different woods. You can also get the mat for the picture in smooth or suede with a choice of colors. They will also engrave whatever you want on the mat. I got one made of Alder wood with a dark brown suede mat for Raven. It also has the embossing on the frame. I really do love it. It cost me $65 plus the shipping. It is very easy to put the pic you want in the frame and it can be changed out as you want. Also, the urn can be set either horizontally or vertically.

Thanks for all of the great responses. Barb and Raven, I really like Snowy Pines' website and the fact that they make them themselves. They seem like good people (from what you can tell from a website). I think I'll order from them.

However, I appreciate everyone's input! Thanks again.

Yes, I really liked Snowy Pines. I found them on Ebay and ordered from there. I originally ordered a walnut urn and then changed my mind and they were kind enough to change it with no problem since it had not been made at the time of my change. It also was sent by priority mail very well packaged and with instructions on how to put the pic in the frame. I was very pleased with the whole transaction from them and really do love the urn.
Good luck and I am sorry to hear about your loss. There is not one day that goes by that I don't think of Raven and it will be one year on Thanksgiving Day.

Re: Reputable source for an urn

I received the urn from Snowy Pines yesterday and put our boy in his final resting spot this morning. Snowy Pines crafted an absolutely beautiful urn. The materials and craftsmanship are first rate. I'd highly recommend them to any of you. They also posted a tribute to our boy on their webpage. Great people, great service, great product.

Re: Reputable source for an urn

I'm glad to hear that you like the urn. I too was very pleased with Snowy Pines.
You mentioned that you posted a tribute to your dog and I had to check it out. I would guess that it would be Nikko? He's to only Rottie that I saw there. If so, he looks just like my rescue (in Feb), Brock. I know you miss him dearly.
I did not know about posting a tribute when I had ordered my urn. I emailed them to ask if I could still do that and am waiting a reply. I would like to put my Raven on it. She has been gone for a year this past Thanksgiving and it seems to be getting a bit easier but she was very special to me. I will never get over losing her. I was going through some of my videos last night and came across some with her being so silly when she was much younger. Those brought smiles of good times with my girl. I am so glad that I have them along with tons of pics.

That's my boy. Good luck with your tribute; I'm sure they would be willing to post it. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Thanks. After I emailed them about posting the tribute they wrote back that the tributes are new this year and that I could still add Raven to it. Raven was my pride and joy.
Snowy Pines is great. I will be using them again in the future. Hopefully not too soon. They leave us too soon but we enjoy them while they are here.
