Aloha Oe Pele

Yesterday was one of the hardest days in my life. Angela and I decided that it was time for us to let our dog Pele go. She was with us for 6 years - she made us laugh, she made us angry and yesterday she made us cry. She had been suffering for the last 2 years with hip dysplasia and also a torn ACL. Just recently it had become almost impossible for her to stand up on her own and so we decided that it was time to let her go. She was the most mild tempered dog I have ever known and the thing she enjoyed the most in her life was to cuddle up to someone and have them pet her. She was indeed a gentle giant. I knew that it was going to be a hard thing to do but I had no idea how hard. The drive to the Humane Society was too short and hard knowing what was to come. I had to lift Pele into the back seat because her hips hurt too bad to jump up on her own. When we got there the people at the front desk expressed their condolences and we were taken to an examination room. Thankfully, they allowed us to be there the entire time. It was quick and painless and I held her in my arms the entire time until it was over. I know in my heart that it was the right thing to do and it was time to end her pain. Although she was with us for 6 years it feels like it wasn't long enough. Even though she was just a dog she felt like part of the family and we will miss her dearly.

Re: Aloha Oe Pele

I am sooo very very sorry for your loss. it is the most difficult decision...and although you know you are doing the right thing, that doesn't make it one bit easier. we just had to do the same thing for our lab last week---the only thing wrong with him was his hips. it's just not fair.

i'm thinking of you and your family during this difficult time. it's tough. ((hugs))

So sorry to hear that - so sorry....such a hard decision. I am still trying to recover from mine...a week ago today at noon...moment by moment, day by day we move on. RIP Pele.

I am so sorry for your loss. We never have them long enough and they break our hearts when they leave.
