I am so sorry to read about all the loses. I too lose my 12 1/2 year old Rottie last June. It was very hard but I guess I was also blessed for he passed away while resting after our walk. We had a nice moment at the park and he just quietly went away. I was lucky not to have dealt with the decision of the 'last' trip to the vet's.... It took awhile but the feelings of hurt, anger, abandoned will slowly go away and the wonderful memories will still be there. I miss my Dumbo very much. He was healthy and active all the way till the end and that's how I remember him. Here is a poem I found in a catalog. Author is unknown.

My Forever Friend

I know that it must be different
now that I am no longer here.
I can see how much
I was loved and how
all of you did care.
It will be hard at first when
you look around for me,
lying on my bed or
outside my favorite tree.
But someday what you
will begin to see,
although it'll take some time,
is that you brought
happiness to me,
and forever it will be mine.
Remember it's the family I had
that meant the most to me.
So please don't be sad,
it was just my time to leave.

I still cry when I read this....
You will feel better and someday you'll want another one just so to honor the one you lost. I just adopted a 2 year old and he is a wonderful 'puppy'. I missed Dumbo's calmness but I also forgot how playful he onces was. Having Spencer made me remember all the fun I had with Dumbo. I am considering another Rottie and if she is exactly what I want, I will have two babies by this weekend!
My heart goes out to all of you who lost your loved one. When you are ready, there are many homeless Rotties who need a home. I am sure the Rottie you lost would approved on your new family member. Take care.
