Thumbs up Lost my best friend

Thursday of this past week I lost a dear friend of mine. She was my best friend for 7 years, and I was her best friend for 7 years. Her big beautiful body had turned on itself (kidney failure) and she started losing weight and by Wednesday she had decided she wasn't interested in food, especially things she loved like chicken, peanut butter, cheese, hamburger and rice, her beloved 'treats' (milk bones, etc) she always looked for when it was time for bed.

I had her cremated right away, and already have her ashes. I'm looking for a suitable way to keep her memory alive (as if I could ever forget her), there are quite a few urns and such to purchase so I'll have to spend some time looking. It's not quite the same having a 1 pound box sit in your lap as it was an 85 pound dog (yes, she was a lap dog whenever she could get away with it!)

I don't know how many people are the praying type. I'm really not but I'm the "sending good thoughts your way" kind of person. No matter which of those you are, I could really use them sent my way for a while.

Thanks.

robert

My niece Cassidy with my Lucy this past Easter

I found another pic of her from less than 2 months ago, shows how she really looked, she loved to pose for me, she was always a good sport about it though my other dog absolutely hates cameras (you can see her head just behind Lucy's right side).

Re: Lost my best friend

Oh I am so sorry for your loss. Of course we will send prayers and thoughts
your way. It is so hard to lose them and I know what it's like to have a broken heart when we have to say goodbye. It will get easier, and your heart will mend, and she will always be in it.

Re: Lost my best friend

They don't allow links to picture galleries- you should take those down. You should be able to post your pictures in the Gallery after you have been here awhile, it doesn't take too long.

ps. I peeked anyway, great pics!

Re: Lost my best friend

Thanks all. I'm still looking for her everywhere, the realization that it's not a dream is hitting me. She was everything to me.

On the petloss.com site (wish they'd turn off that music!) there's a section about dealing with the loss of your pet and I'm definitely in the guilt stage though I know I gave her everything, and more than most people would. But somehow I feel I let her down.

As I was looking over some bills yesterday, I noticed her insurance premium was charged on Friday, the day after she went to the rainbow bridge. I guess they'll see her last claim has the big "E" on it and can cancel my policy for her.

Thanks again everyone.

Re: Lost my best friend

Many of us here have needed and received prayers and good thoughts when we lost our heartdogs. We understand the loss and emptiness losing Lucy has brought to you. It will take time for the love and memories of Lucy to outweight the heartbreak. You will be in my thoughts. RIP sweet, beautiful Lucy.

Re: Lost my best friend

Sorry to hear you lost your beautiful Lucy.
I lost my Raven six months ago tomorrow. She too had kidney failure as well as congestive heart failure. I am like you in feeling that I let her down when she needed me the most. There has not been one day gone by that I don't think about her and how I let her down and if I could have done more for her. She had spent four days at the vet's and then came home and seemed to be doing okay even though the vet said she could leave me at any time with her condition. I was in the denial stage in thinking she would be with me for at least a few more weeks. Well, two days after coming home she passed away while I was at work. That is what really kills me. Had I known she was worse than I wanted to admit to then I would have had her put down. I was not with her in the end but my comfort is that she was at home and not at the vet clinic. Her sis Brandy was here with her. She had passed away in my bedroom and every time I walk in there I still see her laying there. It's really hard to get over. Raven was eight years old.
I had her cremated and searched a lot of sites for a nice urn and settled on a beautiful wooden one from Snowy Pines Pet Memorials. They have a nice selection of different woods that come with an attached picture frame as well as a suede mat on which they will engrave whatever you want on it.

Re: Lost my best friend

Robert, I'm so sorry for your loss of Lucy. They are never with us long enough and I think we all feel guilt regardless of the ways we lost them.

Eventually the sadness will be replaced a little bit at a time and you will be able to smile remembering something she did, or how she acted at a certain time.

It's true, that time is a healer, Lucy wouldn't want you to spend time thinking you failed her. You were her best friend and she went to the Bridge knowing how much she was loved.

(I have 8 urns at my house of some of mine that have gone to the Bridge. Unfortunately I no longer do that as the money I would have spent on that is spent now on my rescuing in honor of all the pets I have loved and lost and will continue to love and lose to the Bridge.)

My thoughts are with you during this time.

Kathy

Re: Lost my best friend

I am so sorry. I know just how you feel. My Daisy died Feb. 19 and the hurt is as fresh as yesterday. I know the memories of Lucy will be of comfort to you.
