Rest In Peace Rusty

It was about 13 years ago when my friend’s mom rescued a Pit-bull that would soon be named Rusty. He was one year old at the time they found him in a run down house in Patterson, NJ. It was taken away from the owner do to neglect and abuse. When we first met him his bones were showing, he was shaking, and he could barely stand up. Everyone thought that this pup wouldn’t make it and even if he did he would have to be put down because he would be too aggressive. When Rusty started to recover it turned out quite the opposite. Rusty turned out to be a very loyal, loving, and peaceful dog. After school Rusty would meet us at the end of my friend’s driveway and play with us all around the farm. He was one of the most loyal friends we have ever had. He even gave my friend and I a warm welcome after our 2 year deployment. Sadly last Wendsday January 10th, old Rusty passed on. I know he’s not a Rottweiler, but I figured you guys wouldn’t mind. Rusty is survived by Duke (Rottweiler), Maggie (Doberman), Charlie (German Shepherd), and two cats (Sparky, and Lexus). My friend plans on getting another Pit-Bull! It kind of makes me angry when people view these dogs as vicious, they are some of the best dogs I know.

So sorry for your loss. He served his time and has gotten his "wings". People forget that a pit bull was the dog of Our Gang movies! How very sad that they have been so abused that they are now feared. Fly with the Angels Rusty. You were a worthy ambassador for the breed.

Re: Rest In Peace Rusty

I'm very sorry for your loss of Rusty. In reading your post I could tell he meant a lot to you. You and your friend were blessed to have had him for 13 years.
You are right - I know several families that have Pits and they are wonderful pets. I just question why your friend has a Pit, Rottie, Dobie and GSD - all large, strong dogs?

I am sorry for your loss... I know so many other pits that are the greatest dogs because they have the greatest owners. My heart goes out to you in this sad time.

Re: Rest In Peace Rusty

thanks for the support! All of their animals are rescued, they kept the larger dogs with unfortunate reputations because people never wanted to adopt them. We see alot of smaller dogs go through the house but they get adopted fast. Sorry if that scared you a little!

Re: Rest In Peace Rusty

Dear Rusty...brave boy...your journey to find love was completed on this side. Now sweet boy you run and play in perfect health till you are reunited with the humans who were lucky enough to have your love and devotion.
I send my condolences to your "peeps" here without you, they miss you so. Please send your help too.
RIP Rusty
