Rocky is gone.

We lost our Rocky puppy. We were on our way to Oklahoma for Thanksgiving. There was an accident and Rocky died. He didn't suffer, the vet in Buffalo, TX said he died instantly. We had him for 16 months, he was only 21 months old. I can't figure out if the 16 months is a blessing for being such a short amount of time, or just long enough to be painful. My son and I both watched Rocky get hit and die. Getting the images out of our heads is extremely difficult. We're having a birthday party for my son this Saturday, he'll be 13. But we don't feel very festive. And just this morning, I was telling my husband how excited the pup would be to see all the kiddos. He just loves kiddos. I don't seem to be able to stop crying. I was so sure Rocky was a gift, a blessing from God. He brought so much joy and love into our lives. But why would God give us such a precious gift and then take it away so soon? Did we do something wrong? Did we fall too in love with Rocky too fast? I'm a firm Christian and normally have no cause to question God, but I don't seem to be able to help myself this time. OK, I can't type anymore for crying.

God puts these dogs in and out of our lives so fast, but remember that everything happens for a reason, this dog was your blessing for 16 months! He will be watching you from the rainbow bridge.

I am so, so sorry to hear about Rocky. Losing a dog is never easy, and something like this is just awful. I can't imagine what you and your family are giong through right now in dealing with Rocky's loss, and the damper that is being put on your son's birthday must be very oppressive.

Please remember that God didn't make this happen any more than you would make something bad happen for your own children to have to watch as a punishment. We are God's children, and He does not 'make things happen' just to punish us, no matter what anyone tries to tell you; He does NOT operate that way. If that were true, none of us would stand a chance. He is not punishing you for something bad that you did. Things happen, and there is not always a reason for it.

Thanks guys! Your words are very comforting. I had a meeting with the pastor of our church this morning, he said about the same thing TR Young did. It was just a freak thing and I'm gonna be all right.
