Re: Dozer left this world fighting

Miss Mary, You are a very strong woman. You had the courage to do what needed to be done for Dozer and carried it through. You did the right thing for him and never second guess or play the guilt game. Dozer is finally at peace.

I work in a shelter and hold many dogs as they pass over. As others here have said, the mentally stable dogs pass easy, but the dogs with demons cannot let their guard down.

I've followed your posts here on RDN and you have shown time and again what a good, strong, brave person you are. Most don't stick around when they don't hear what they want. You took what you needed and used it to make a much better life for you and your dogs.

Take care of yourself, grieve and mourn the loss of Dozer. Pick up the pieces of your heart and move forward. Dozer thanks you for letting him off the chain and being free now to rest at peace.

hugs
sue

I'm so sorry you and Dozer had to go through this.

You have set him free from his worries, fears and demons.

Miss Mary, I am so very sorry that you had to go through that heartbreak up until the very end. I had a cat that needed to be put down long before his 'typical' life would of ended and he fought the process of euthanasia with all he had. I sat with him in my lap for 45 minutes before he gave in. It remains one of the single most gut wrenching experiences of my life.

Godspeed Dozer. You are at peace once again.

Re: Dozer left this world fighting

I know that Dozer wasn't fighting for his life because he didn't know what was happening, when I wrote that I was a mess and not thinking to clearly. I agree he was to scared to relax. I had hoped he would go peacefully but I should have known he wouldn't, with his fears and all I should have figured he would fight it but I wasn't thinking clearly. I feel really bad for my son-in-law that was the first time he had ever seen a dog PTS, I have told him that it is not useually like that at all but still I can only imagine how hard it must have been for him. Dozer did show more aggression that night then I had ever seen in him and yet towards me he acted nothing but loveing. I seen that night just how bad his demons were and it broke my heart for him, that is no way for any one to have to live. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done but it was the right thing and I know that. I miss him dearly and I still cry alot but I know he feels no more pain and that helps. It was so very hard that night and there were times I didn't think I could continue but I did and if I ever had to again I would. It is the last act of love I can give to a beloved pet to be there and tell them how much I love them as they leave this world. Dozer is gone but he remians in my heart and memories forever and I can be glad for him that he suffers no more.
I thank you all for being here for me, your surport helps me so very much.

I am so sorry for your pain - losing two dogs in such a short span must be difficult.

Rest in peace sweet boy..

MissMary,

I'm sorry I just saw this, I read your posts about your dogs all the time, and I'm so impressed that you do what needs to be done.

I had seen you had made this decision for Dozer, I'm sorry I'm belated in sending my sympathies. You definitely gave Dozer the most unselfish gift you could ever give another living thing.

Be at peace Dozer, and God bless you MissMary.

Kathy
