Re: Rottie will not eat

Thanks to all of you for your most valuable input. Here is the report. I was able to get her a vet appointment at 4pm today. Vet, was super! he felt her belly and sure enough he felt "something". He took her back for a quick X-
Ray,and 10 minutes later we saw for ourselves..... our beloved Chloe had a huge, and I do mean huge tumor. It involved pancreas and spleen and had also pushed the colon way up out of place. Given the options, such a very hard heart wrenching decision had to be made. We opted to have her put to sleep. Now, as we grieve the loss, in my heart I know we did the right thing. Surgery could have only told us more of the ugly story. So, we sat with her, held and kissed her goodbye as she slipped into her forever sleep. My husband was not able to drive home, so I mustered up all the courage I could and here we are. Her sister, Durban knows something is different, but I don't think she knows for sure. We will have to do this all over again with Durban because she too is same age, but has very bad hip dysplasia.
Thanks to each of you for your input. Please know I will still continue to read everything this website has to offer.
Jean.

Re: Rottie will not eat

Oh, Jean, I am SO sorry. I have been there with my Annie many years ago, but the memory is as vivid as yesterday. Annie had one large tumor that they knew about, but when she underwent exploratory surgery, many many small ones were there too. I allowed her to never wake from the surgery. The vet said he would never have known how sick she was on the inside from how she looked on the outside.

They hide things from us really well until it is too late.

She will love you forever, and your memories will ease the pain in time. Durban will help you through it, too.

Jean, I am so sorry for your loss. Cancer was one of the first things I had thought of when I read your original post. And at that age, it occurs all too often.

Thank you for having the kindness in your heart to think of her quality of life and to let her go now instead of letting her linger. She did not know anything but your comforting arms around her as she passed and she will be waiting for you, healthy and happy, at the Bridge.

God Bless and remember, we are all here for you at this time.

Re: Rottie will not eat

I am so very sorry for your shocking loss.

You are a brave, caring person that you reached deep and demonstrated the depth of your love for your Chloe. I hope you and your husband find consolation in knowing Chloe lived the best life she could have had because she was your dog. I also hope you find a measure of comfort in knowing your girl lived a long, good life and that she didn't suffer because of your grace and courage.

Re: Our Beloved Chloe

I'm so sorry the news wasn't better, but Bless Your Heart for loving her enough to let her go when she needed to. A hug for you, and give your husband a hug from us, too, it's always so very hard on the guys to lose a friend.

Godspeed, Chloe....fly with the Angels. We have many Angels at the Bridge to welcome you.

Thank you all. Words are certainly comforting until our hearts get a grip and move on. Now I will be in the league you all are, to be qualified to give someone else the words they need to read and follow. God Bless each of you who took the time to write to me.

How awful. I am so very sorry for your loss. Take time to grieve - then remember the good times. God speed Chloe.

Re: Our Beloved Chloe

Jean,

I'm sorry to hear about your sudden loss of Chloe, and I thank you for having the courage and the compassion to give her that final gift. Even when the decision is that obvious, it is still not easy and the pain still hurts.

May God bless your family in this time of hurt.

Re: Our Beloved Chloe

Jean...My heart breaks for you and your DH. Letting Chloe cross the bridge was one of the hardest things you will ever do. I understand the pain so well as I have lost 2 to cancer and I have 1 diagnosed recently. It is all too painful to let them go...but we do so because of the love we share. Rotties are such a stoic breed. Chloe kept her pain a secret until she couldn't any longer. You gave her the dignity she deserved...to cross the bridge in peace. She will be met by so many that have gone before her...and I'm sure my Sasha will help her get into trouble...she was always good at that! As tears stream down my face, my heart breaks for the pain you are enduring. Time will help to heal your heart, but remember Chloe will forever be your "rottie angel". She will watch over you and someday meet you at the bridge. Godspeed Chloe...Fly on your wings of gold! Watch over your family, they miss you dearly. I will keep you and your family in my daily thoughts and prayers.

Ohhh :( I am so sorry to hear that. I would be inconsolable if that was me. I'm glad you got to say goodbye to her and be with her in her last moments and now she has no pain.
