Thumbs up Where has their humanity gone?

I am sorry if this is in the wrong place I am new to this web site. I am heart broken. I didn't really now where to place this but I need to grieve. I went to shelter and I was their too check on a litter of pups to be fostered and a beautiful female Rotti about a year old her name was Queenie. I was total taking back by this beautiful animal and I started my fight to get her out. She was just transferred from another shelter so based on the behavior evaluation she had filed. I did not spend to much time but I have worked with dogs for YEARS and I did do some basic temperament tests while I was there visiting with her and she had passed. I know that there might have been some bias to my test, since she had remind me of another dog that is now in Rainbow Heaven Shadow who I still miss daily. I felt as though this dog Queenie had potential and their still was another option and not that of death still the MD SPCA found that death was the better option then my loving arms. Toy Aggression is something that CAN be worked through and something that I do have some basic knowledge of, and had it been a more serious aggression we would have done some different training and therapy to fix the problem. I feel as though these set agency worry to much on polices and not of these beautiful lap dogs. I also feel as though there is racism on the Rottweiler Breed, these animals are helpless and need to have people advocating for them.

We know only too well about prejudice against rottweilers. I wonder sometimes if humans ever had humanity. Don't get me started on man's inhumanity. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Re: Where has their humanity gone?

The overcrowding of these facilities means that these decisions do get made.... rescues and others can't save them all, and if there is any issue about any dog's temperament (not just Rotties) they declare them unadoptable and euthanize them to make room.

It is a sad consequence of people breeding dogs indiscriminately in the first place for temperament and other issues, and of having puppies fall into the hands of people who do not raise them properly, resulting in their being dumped at pounds or other shelters.

Re: Where has their humanity gone?

I am sorry to hear Queenie could not be saved.

It is just a glaring reminder to owners out there thinking of throwing their dogs in the pound. People leave them there and fool themselves into thinking the animal won't be one of the millions PTS. And unfortunately her owners did her an even greater disservice by letting her bevavior slide to make her "unadoptable" by the shelter's standards.

Re: Where has their humanity gone?

I'm very sorry to read about this. In a way I see where you are coming from. When I went to look for a new dog I walked in only to find the most beautiful, perfect little guy that stole my heart. The people at the SPCA here said that he had a bad temperament, but he was only 3 months old!!! I luckily got him out of there in time because euthanasia was the next step for him. He's now the most caring, loving guy I know. He's a huge teddy bear. I wish people could see past all of the bad things people say about rotts. It really is all in how you raise them. Once again, I'm sorry for your loss.
