We-Chi joins Buster at the Bridge

On Friday we sent our 14-16 year old Shih-Tzu, We-Chi, to join Buster. He was not eating and getting really slow. Vet said his kidneys were failing.

We adopted We-Chi out of a shelter. He had cloudy eyes, was only 8 pounds and after his Vet check we found out he was deaf, had nose and ear infections and about 5 fatty masses. Within a month or so, he was up to 15 pounds.

To say he was a funny, old dog is an understatement. He didn't play much, he didn't run around. His tail wagged at one slow, steady rhythm. All he did was lay by your side and enjoy being next to you. At night, he was a "burrower." Under the covers to lay right up against us (usually my wife, as he was "her" dog).

In Dec 2004, five days after Buster crossed the Bridge, We-Chi developed a severe eye problem requiring the removal of his one "good" eye. Being a blind, deaf dog didn't stop him. He always found his food, the doggie door and us. When he came back into the house, his nose would go up, start sniffing and he slowly walked over to where we were sitting.

Godspeed We-Chi. You're all well now. Buster will be glad to see you.

Godspeed We-chi. You have much good company at the Bridge, and I'm sure Buster will be greeting you with a nub wag.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Re: We-Chi joins Buster at the Bridge

Godspeed little one. Say "woof" to my daughter-in-law's Shih Tzu, Auggie Doggie, who went to the Bridge on March 17 at 16 years of age. Her tail also had a slow s-w-i-s-h to the left and a slow s-w-i-s-h to the right. Her favorite place was on the chest of whoever was lying on the couch. These little dogs have lion hearts in their tiny bodies. Run and play.

Re: We-Chi joins Buster at the Bridge

szky, when I was 15 and lived in Ireland, my aunt appeared at our house one day with a shih-tzu puppy...she had taken a notion to get a new dog for the kids. My mother and I were so besotted with this most beautiful little puppy that we ended up getting her sister. My aunt, unfortunately, gave her little girl away when the novelty wore off. We, on the other hand, saw our little Suti through 15 years of life. We brought her with us when we moved back to Canada. At the time, we only knew of one other shih-tzu in the city so she was quite the conversation piece. We adored her - she was a great blessing to my mother during the years she lived alone. She had a great spirit and was a real little character. I know quite well what your little boy must have meant to you. I'm very sorry for your loss.
