I lost my Nico in Oct-03- reading your post brought back so many feelings, My heart is broke for you, I know all to well that pain. This is going to be a very difficult time for you, I promise time will help. I still cry (as I am NOW!) but I smile much more at all of the funny thigs about Nico, and how lucky I am to have shared those 7yrs of his too short life. I have said this before here and you can understand I would go through this pain a million times over to share what I did with Nico, and you with Orca. The love and memories no one can ever take away. Orca was sooo lucky to have someone LOVE him so much, he sounds amazing and so do you! Some things are just out of our hands, but you can be sure god is taking care of all our babies and they are waiting for us. No pain, just enjoying being free and playing all day. I am truly sorry for your loss, you will be in my prayers and I'm sure Nico and the others are there to greet and guide him. god bless.
Dana

Thanks to everyone for such kind thoughts. I added some photos to Orca's dogster page and thought some of you might want to put a picture to his story: http://www.dogster.com/?877.

The main pic for him is the one that most reminds me of him. It's a bit fuzzy because he yanked his head around as I shot the photo. He was leaning against the wall, chewing on a rubber ball like Rottie bubble-gum and I was able to sneak up on him with a camera before he noticed and swung around. He was never super-observant. If he was sleeping and I heard a strange noise, I'd have to wake him to investigate. That was him.

I did go to work yesterday and today. It actually made things easier to focus on other tasks instead of being around an empty house. But coming home was very tough - near impossible. Orca used to greet me on one end of the deck that looked over the driveway, and then would race all the way around to the gate that was closest to the front door to make sure I made it into the house to let him in. It's a pattern I may never forget for as long as I live here.

We also got a very nice card from his vet today. A long message ending with saying how the office staff will never forget Orca. Very sweet.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful story with us! I lost my girl (Stanzi) one week ago, and wish that I had the strength to write such a great tribute. I hope that time can ease the pain of your loss. These stories here at the bridge remind me of the great breed characteristics of our rotties, and also of their incredible personalities. Your description of Orca was very moving - it's clear that he was well-loved.

take care,

You wrote a beautiful account of Orca's life...he was so lucky to have a dad like you.
There is a line-up at the Rainbow Bridge these days......I hope you find some comfort in knowing what a great life your dog had with you.
