a legend is gone

The oldest dog in Frontier history has gone to wait for her family at the gates of Heaven

Loki (AKA the black barking dog) was a Lab X shepherd X border collie mix that Rob and his ex wife liberated from their neighbors yard where she had been living on a chain since a pup. At that time she was a bit over a year old. Later that same year Stacia was born and they've been together ever since

9 years ago this month Rob moved in with me with an Army duffle bag, an old pickup and Loki. She was a very sturdy dog and Ro told me she'd outlive all my Rottweilers. Well she outlived over half of them! She lived through emergency pyometra surgery at TWELVE and through 4 strokes. Each time bouncingback like nothing happened. It appeared that she would indeed live forever.

Yesterday am though she could not rise. Her back end had given up even though the front end was still willing. She spent the afternoon on a thick blanket in the warm spring air and then made her very calm and peaceful way out of this life.

Rob and Stacia will be spreading her ashes in her favorite spot in the woods. Loki was 17 years old. Yes 17

Rest in peace black dog

Wow 17 years old! It sounds like Loki lived a long and happy (after being rescued!) life.

Re: a legend is gone

Diane, my Sympathies to you, Rob and Stacia.... Is Stacia OK?? 17 years is a long time to have with a friend, although I'm sure you were thankful to have such a long time with her, sometimes the longer we have them the harder it is to let go......

Re: a legend is gone

Stacia is not taking this well at all..... Plus the dog at her other home (with her mom) is 14 and not doing too well.... poor kid. Both the dogs who've been with her the longest will probably be gone by year's end. This on top of the loss of Angelica and Molly earlier are not giving her a kind intro into the world of a life with dogs

Very hard indeed, Losing our Angel just shy of her 18th Birthday about sent me over the edge. But it does get better.

I'm so sorry for yet another loss for your family......
