Re: Reba

She didn't go to the Bridge alone that day. My Heidi (my old red dobie girl) also quietly left me on Sunday.

I guess I take care of the ones here in the fur and my husband takes care of the ones in spirit.

I have others here, but they're each all special, wonderful and dearly missed.

Re: Reba

WOW, I am so sorry about Reba.....
Just from this board alone, 4 or 5 of our rottie babies have gone to the bridge, this past week.

Reba, look for my handsome boy Czar....

A friend once told me, if you are without a dog after a loss, to please consider getting another soon. She put it this way, "you will never replace the spot in your heart where your love for "Reba" is carried. But you fill the spot in your heart that needs a dog."

Hang in there...

Re: Reba

My youngest son(8) has set up a memorial on our hearth with Reba's ashes, a photo, a little sandcast rott figurine and a candle. We shared happy memories of her.

I do appreciate all your responses. And I want to share this with you... On Sunday morning, as we were pulling out of our subdivision with Reba on the way to the emergency vet, there were three deer in the field by the woods where we walked almost every day. In fact, Saturday morning we took our last walk there. It took me awhile, but I feel it was a sign of my now three deceased dogs together.....

Re: Reba

I'm so sorry to hear about Reba. The pain of losing a companion animal is almost unbearable. Keep the wonderful memories of her tucked in your heart.
Your son sounds like a wonderful and compassionate young boy. I think it's so honorable of him to have built a memorial for Reba.
I do believe the 3 deer were in fact symbolic, as they stood content and peaceful watching as you drove on.
Take care of each other -
kathy

Re: Reba

Be sure to be gentle with yourself. Take all the time you need to cry and grieve. My Diva died of lymphoma a month ago and all I did was cry, read, novels and watch tv for two weeks. It has been very hard not having a dog in the house but mourning will run its course (though you will always think of her). Be gentle with yourself and you will make it through.

Re: Reba

You are so right,Diva'sOwner. I feel like I am going through a withdrawal of sorts. This place is too quiet without any dogs.

Re: Reba

Yeah, for a while I thought I could hear her walking in the house after she was gone. And I spend the whole day at home writing so this in particular was really hard. Even out of the corner of my eye, I felt like I could see the form of her body. Right now, I'm much better and these things don't happen. But in those first few days it was really, really hard. Just know that the loss of a dog (especially for one dog households) is hard for everyone. But give yourself time. Whenever I was really sad, I would light a candle that I bought for her, place it next to my favorite picture of her and talk to her. I would tell her what I missed about her or even about my day. This would always make me sad but a small part of me felt better. Now when I light her candle and tell her what I miss, the feelings are mostly of peace. Be well! My thoughts are with you.
