Ash has passed over the bridge

Ash, my sixteen year old Schipperke, passed over the bridge, yesterday. She was a tiny little thing for a Schip. She was a pet shop puppy, but came to me in a special way. A couple months before I got Ash, I lost another Schipperke at the ripe old age of 22 years.
Cinder had been with me through thick and thin....death, divorce, health problems, remarriage, and all the stuff of life. I had a dream on a Fri. night, awoke and told my new husband that we had to go to Denver. (We lived in Ft. Collins at the time.) I told him what pet shop we needed to go to as there was a tiny puppy that needed me. We did not even call to see if they had a Schip. (David later told me he thought I had called and found out they had a Schipperke. I had not!) We arrived to find the tiniest six week old Schipperke I have ever seen. She was so full of life. She was a little ball of black pup bouncing up and down the isle of the petshop, chasing a ball bigger than she. We had to get a loan to pay the $400. The loan was with someone who worked with the petshop. We only were working at McDonalds, even though I was a manager, and David worked for Blackjack Pizza and was going to college. We still qualified. Do not remember the interest rate, but it was high. Ash has had a few major surgeries..spay, uterine cyst almost as big as she was, poor teeth, and crooked legs, and major skin allergies her whole life. Her first vacinations almost killed her as she went into anaphlactic shock when we took her out of the vet office, to the lawn, to go to the batroom before we came home. Rushed her back inside and she was immediately attended to by the vet. She had a heart of gold and did not know she was little. She loved to go outside with Erda, our Rottie, and lie in the sun together. She used to run to Erda and turn broadside and bump into her, to challenge Erda to play. Erda was always so gentle with Ash. Never hurt a hair on the little terrors hide. I am so going to miss her! Anyone new to the dog world, please remember this post. Pet shop puppies can be very expensive, and often lead to a lot of heartbreak. We were so lucky she stayed with us so long. Guess thats all I can say through my tears. Ash, I love! Have fun with Shiobhan, Artesian, Chocolata, Shadow, and Cinder. All our love! You will never be forgotten.

Re: Ash has passed over the bridge

I'm sorry to hear of Ash's passing. No matter how many times we go through the agonizing loss of a pet, the sadness and pain are never any less.
May the memories of the time you spent together, offer some comfort.

Re: Ash has passed over the bridge

I am so sorry you lost your dear Ash. The Schipperke has a very large portion of my heart...they are wonderful little dogs and notoriously long-lived.

My very first dog-walking client ever was a Schipperke named Nika and I am still walking her to this day. She is the only dog who gets to ride in the front seat with me.!!

If Ash was anything like Nika is, then you have suffered a great, great loss. Again, I am very sorry...

Re: Ash has passed over the bridge

Im sorry to hear about your loss. I had a schiperkee and I miss her greatly. I also made the mistake of buying her from a petstore, she was a medical/mental mess but I loved her so very much. Of course I also learned the hard way to go directly to a breeder or to a humane society for my dogs.

Just wanted to take the time to thank everyone for your sympathy concerning Ash's passing. Erda and Molly keep going to the area where Ash slept, like they were looking for her.

Re: Ash has passed over the bridge

Though no matter what age our beloved friends pass, it is never easy but how lucky you were to have her 16 years. Rest in peace Ash. My condolences to you and your family .
