My Puddy Dog

When I was 42 and looking for love, I put an ad in the personals. The following weeks were filled with meeting after meeting after meeting with interested, if not interesting, women. One lady invited me for dinner at her house.

She had two dogs, a black lab and a 3 year old bichon. By the end of the evening, because the dogs didn't get along with each other, she offered to give me the bichon.

I named her Poochie a.k.a. Puddy Dog, and took my first doggy home, which proves that you can find love through the classifies.

Today is Poochie's 19th birthday and the day she died.

She will be joining her old Rotti friend, BooBoo, whom at 2 1/2, died of cancer in September of 2002, and is leaving behind her other Rotti friend, Picabo. Both Rotties were more than ten times her weight, but were always gentle with her and they really were good friends.

I had Puddy Dog at the vet just four days ago, after she went into convulsions. She was fine when we got there. Her heart was strong and was walking normally and I brought her home. Two episodes of convulsions the next day and I knew the time was near.

At nineteen years of age, Poochie was blind, she was almost completely deaf, and was having trouble controlling her bladder.

Up until last week, she was still jumping up on the couch and doing her spinning when excited. She could have kick started a motorcycle when she got her neck scratched.

The past few days showed a dramatic decline and I've been keeping her close to me and as comfortable as possible. She was sleeping at my side one minute and the next, she wasn't there. I looked all over the house but didn't find her. Then, almost as if she whispered in my ear where to look, I went out to the patio. In all the years, even with her declining vision, she never went even close to where I found her. Poochie's lifeless body was floating in the pool.

What I learned from Poochie made me a better human being. She showed me love that didn't depend on conditions. It felt wonderful to give that same kind of love to her.

I will love my Puddy Dog forever.

Stuart

I am so sorry Stuart. Yes I think love can come in many ways. You showed Puddy Dog enough love to carrier her home and back. Again, I am really sorry for your loss.

Stuart - I'm sorry to hear of the tragic passing of your Puddy. She lived a long life of 19 yrs., much longer then most dogs. I know you will miss her
companionship, but cherish the memories of all of those wonderful years you had together.

Bichons are such lovable little guys. I'm so sorry for your loss. 19 years is a great long life. You showed her love and were given love in return. Rest in peace, Puddy Dog.
