This is for those...

who have had the sad affair of having to post here. I sat here most of the night reading the stories in this particular forum and am dehydrated. My prayers and sorrow go out for each one of you. We have not yet gotten our puppy (May 5th), but I can certainly empathize with each one of you. I am not much of a poem-person, but I thought this was appropriate for you and your not forgotten loved ones at the bridge.

If It Should Be

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad I understand
Don't let grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test

We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer so
The time has come please let me go

Take me where my need they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end
Hold me firm and speak to me
Untill my eyes no longer see

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved

Please do not grieve it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We've been so close, we two, these years
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

Re: This is for those...

Thank you so very much, that was so thoughtful of you. So many of us have experienced this and it's only been a month and a half for me and it doesn't matter how many times you have to say goodbye, it never gets any easier . My sweet Czar was number 4 for me and everytime we open our hearts to love another it's something we will have to do over and over but for me the pros far excede the cons, therefore I will always have a pet to love for as long as God allows it.

I hated coming here and did avoid it at all costs but after Czar went to the bridge and I saw how many people took the time to support me I decided coming here often and givng back some of what was given to me is the least I can do.

Thank you again for your thoughtfulness .

Judy

Everytime I read that poem I get overwhelmed. I miss Toby so much.
Thank you for your kind words, and I hope we can be of some support to you if you are ever in need.

Re: This is for those...

I've never lost a pet, and this made me feel even more close to those who have.
Some day, when mine is gone, this made me imagine what it would be like.
I can't help but cry and feel pain for all who hurt from losing a beloved pet.
Thank you for posting this poem.

Thank you for your wonderful poem. I am feeling so sad this evening, but your poem helps. I spent the day, at work. I work for Banfield Pet Hospital, in Petsmart. My vet is a "charter" owner. I saw a lot of new puppies today, so the hope of renewal is ever present.

Type of plant

I would like to put a bush or flower over Ash's grave, in our yard. My two kitties each have a peony. I live in Grand Jct., Colo. It is in the desert, so keep that in mind. It must witstand heat and be drought resistant.
