I'm loosing another one

I've made the decision to have my old girl of 11 years put down on Monday.

Her personality has been changing over the last couple of months and I'm not sure I trust her around people anymore... I think she's in a lot more pain than I realize and it's making her more cranky and steadily more aggressive.

My vet examined her last week and when he did the work up on her hips, I could just see that she's lost so much more mobility and it was painful for her. She looks so old and tired.... eyes are sinking in, all the bones stand out more now, I can't keep ANY weight on her and the look on her face is awful.... it's amazing how much can be read looking into those brown eyes.

I'm just heartbroken, but I'll let her go with the dignity and grace befitting this wonderful companion.

Kimberly

Ahh Kimberly, I'm so sorry. Your dog is so fortunate to have such a loving caring owner. I believe they do tell you when it's time and as hard as it is for us, we have to do what's best for them. We'll be praying for you and your dog. Please know that we're all here for you......

The joy of my new boy fades slightly with the impending loss of your girl, Kimberly.
May the magic of your memories help heal your broken heart.

Oh wow Kimberly, you're one special person :( . That's a very hard thing to do, I know, I've been through it 3 times . That is the most generous thing you can do and by not holding on for your own satisfaction is so big and so unselfish of you. My prayers are with you my friend and I wish you peace for the decision you hve made. Hugs to you, I'll be thinking of you over the weekend and especially Monday :( .

Re: I'm loosing another one

I was deeply saddened and disappointed when I had to have Tyson put down... but this one is completely different, she's been with me through sunshine and shade.

I can't do this anymore... 2 dogs in 6 months...

Thank god for the "not so much a puppy" named Brennin.... but I have no idea how I'm going to deal with his loneliness and mine too at loosing Casey.

I talked with the girl that I help train dogs with and I'll take myself and the puppy over to her house the day after Casey is put down, but to be honest... I'm already feeling guilty about the possibility of having fun without her... it's foolish to feel that way, I know.

I`m sure you know that you are doing the best thing for her. If she is suffering you are releasing her from her pain. Do not feel guilty for having fun without her. You are not foolish for feeling that way either.
I personally think that we have to go on with our lives. They want us to be happy. I will be thinking and praying for you and your family.

Re: I'm loosing another one

I saw your last thread about her yesterday, and was wondering where that stood.

Don't feel guilty, she'll be with you in spirit! And I'm sure she'll always watch over that puppy.

Wishing you strength on Monday, and after.

Re: I'm loosing another one

My sympathies are with you at this time.

It's never an easy decision to make but I agree that she's probably told you that it's time. I bet she thanks you for putting her needs above your emotions. It's the greatest gift.

My thoughts & prayers will be with you & her on Monday. Hugs to you!

It sounds as though you are doing the right thing. Sadly we can never really know how much pain they are in. I wish you all the best at this difficult time....

Re: I'm loosing another one

Kimberly,

That is the hardest decision we can make as caretakers to our dogs. They give us their all and trust us to make decisions that are in their best interests, regardless of how it breaks our hearts.

It's the last great gift, your final act of love to let her go with dignity and grace and you, her loyal companion beside her.

You'll be in my thoughts on Monday, enjoy the time you have,

Kathy

Re: I'm loosing another one

Kimberly, you are very much doing the right thing by Casey and what a wonderful, loving, owner you are, for having the strength to make the tough call for her. Don't feel guilty for enjoying life without her. That is not what she would want for you. Honor her memory by going on with life and feeling joy again.
My thoughts are with you. God Speed Casey.
