Osteosarcoma

My 8-year-old rottie, BJ, was diagnosed with bone cancer a year and a half. His front leg was amputated and he's been doing extremely well ever since. However, two weeks ago, a new cancerous tumor was found in his hind leg. Naturally, this can't be amputated, so we're just waiting. The vet has given him 3 to 8 weeks. So far, the etogesic he's on has maintained his pain. I know he's headed to the Rainbow Bridge before long and it's almost too much pain for me to handle. I just wanted to share my sadness.

Sherry, it sounds as though you and BJ have had a fairly successful journey. If you search the vet's corner forum for posts by chivas, you may find some alternative pain treatments for osteo, should that become necessary.

Many people here at rott.net have walked this path before you, and know exactly how you feel. Myself, I've stood there too, though with different cancers. We'll all be thinking of you and BJ over the next weeks, and wishing you the best for as many happy moments as possible.

Give BJ a special hug from me and mine.

I am so sorry to hear your news. Please enjoy every moment you have left with BJ and try not to dwell too hard on your impending loss. None of us know how long we have with our precious dogs so every day is a gift. I know what a difficult time this is for you. My prayers are with you both!

I am very sorry for you and your baby. There is not much to say aside of enjoy every second of every day you are granted. Let BJ eat like a king and take him out for some ice cream. I think it is we that are afriad of them leaving us. Dogs are so brave. I know in my heart there is a better place where they wait for us. We just don't have the courage to go on without them at first.

In time your best memories of when he was healthy will resurface, although you may not think it right now.

I am so sorry to hear about your boy. I have been in the exact same position as you and it sucks.
Cherish the days you have remaining, take LOTS of pics, let him on the 'forbidden' couch, give him tons of treats and junk food.
Rest assured that you have had alot longer time with him then most of us whose dogs had osteosarcoma.
You may want to look into 'pirxoicam' for pain relief. it works much better.

I am so sorry for this news.

Cherish your time with him and give him sloppy kisses from our family.
