Charlie left this morning.....

In the late '80s and early '90s, when my husband and his 2 brothers all were beginning their adult lives, everyone had to have a lab. Jake (chocolate) was ours, the brothers had Sam (yellow) and Max (chocolate), and my inlaws acquired Charlie (black). Add to the mix our hound/lab/chow Homer, and the neighbor's white lab Wylie, and family gatherings were quite the event at my inlaws' home on the lake.

Charlie joined us at Christmastime, 1987, with a big red bow. For years, he officially greeted every visitor with two wet tennis balls and a spray of lake water from his ever-wagging tail. He turned 15 last month, and has been having a rough time with his failing body. This morning, though, he ate a good breakfast, took a nice walk, and happily marked everything he could find.

Charlie joins his brothers Jake and Sam, and his old friend Wylie.

Our boys are slowly reassembling at the bridge.

I'm so sorry, Charlie obviously had a wonderful life to live to be 15y/o.

Sorry also for your loss... Growing up we had a golden lab Sir Schimdlap II and he was the best, losing him after 12 years was hard and to this day I can still remember when we first got him, that huge swiping tail and flappying ears. He was the most accepting dog - us kids always were tugging at him, playing ball etc. I'm sure Charlies is back home with the others, what a great story, I automatically thought our my Schimdlap.

I'm sure Charlie is having a great time with his brothers at the Bridge. What a wonderful long life he had. It brought back memories of my first lab, she lived to be 17.

Thanks for sharing, I sympathize with you in your loss. Be blessed with all of his memories, you'll never forget him.

Sharon
