Re: He is home :)

It took awhile for our resident Rottie (he was 3 y.o. at the time) to adjust to the new puppy, but they are best of friends now. He seemed to be interested in him from the get-go, but just didn't know how to interact with something that tiny! He also seemed very aware of not wanting to harm the puppy.

They are both (neutered) males and we luckily haven't had a scuffle to date (the bulldog is almost 3, Rottie almost 6). *knocking on wood* So managed properly in a house with strict rules (and good readers of body language) you won't necessarily have to separate them in the future.

Re: He is home :)

hope for the best prepare for the worst, just in case. Taz will not be neutered, Harley is. One day at a time, the puppy is just that a puppy and will not start causing trouble. By the time that age hits, he will be under a lot more control as well.
The breeder, trainer are very confident that this arrangement will work out. Too far into the future, I am having fun now with both :)

Awww, that last pic is so cute. It's a good thing you live 10 hours away. Otherwise I would be over your place every day to play with Taz. lol

Re: He is home :)

I asked one of his trainers to come show me how to deal with a very hard headed pup, he has the complete opposite temperament of Harley. This pup is really confident and full of drive, he is not food motivated which makes things a little harder.
She was saying that he should excel in the OB ring, as of for 9 weeks he is very smart, lots of focus on me, and is learning very quickly.
Sit is perfect, name is great, and now he has picked up on the leave it command. Not perfect, but he sort of understands it.
I am so happy with the choice that was made.
Funny thing is, Harley walks away when the puppy comes to close, which in the pups eyes he is winning, so I am going to have to take him down a notch.
If Harley has a toy and the puppy wants it, Harley drops it and walks away. LOL.
Taz is on leash in the house to work on his chase drive, he really wants the cat, gets frustrated when he gets to the end of the leash and I say leave it.
He looks at me as if to say but mom, I want her.
March 31st is first day of Puppy school, While some of the pups are going to be stressed, Taz will be right up there willing to learn

LOL!! Welcome to my world. I have Taz's cousin (both of puppies mothers, are sisters)
Yes...confident and full of drive can be a bit overwhelming...till you learn how to focus that drive. Jemma was also not food motivated as a young puppy...she's getting better now...though...but can still sometimes take it, or leave it. At one puppy class the instructor was teaching "leave it" (she had already learned this command). We were to throw a high value treat about 3-4 feet away from our puppy and not allow them to take it till they were given the command. Jemma was in a 'down-stay'...I threw the chunk of cheese....she could care less... Instructor told me to throw something else...I threw a chunk of turkey wiener....again no interest.

She is my first pup/dog that is not all that food motivated and it's been very interesting.
You learn something new with each and every dog.

Re: He is home :)

Well an update on my little boy who is now almost 11 weeks old.
He is a doll most of the time, LOL found out the reason why no food motivation, he had a small cold so he coud not smell the food, now that he is better food seems to be working. Plus he has started to eat correctly now :)
Harley still does not like him, seems to be very territorial, but he gets away with nada. Seems to be only in the house, when they go on the play date with hobbs, Harley is fine, and actually tries to intervene when gets too rough.
We start puppy school on weds, should be so much fun :)
he is very good with the sit, learning down with the hand gestures now, and has got that pretty good. Stand easily does it with motivation. Eye contact always had it :)
He has a lot of confidence which is a lot different than Harley, I already can see the difference with the way I train.
Taz will be more of a challenge, which shall be fun to say the least
