| Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics Marley will be 8 months old on the 4th of June and I am curious about his coat. Under his chin, the hair is about 1 inch long but very thick...the hair on his back is all wavy, and the hair on his hind legs is pretty odd. LOL. The hair on his actual legs is MAYBE 1/2 inch but he has all this hair that hangs down off the back?! lol. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. LOL. I love him to death and I really couldn't care less what his coat looks like...but I'm just curious about this. It's also not course at all, it's all very soft. Also on his hing legs where I said the hair was long, he has quite a bit of silvery/grayish hair. So I am wondering if maybe he has no top coat??? Marley DID come from a BYB, so it doesn't surprise me he has faults...but I am just curious if he actually has his full coat yet or will this also be blown out?? As a pup he was the biggest fluffy furball ever. lol I added some pics so you could all get a better idea what I am talking about. |

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics My rescue group had a couple of long hairs in our program. They looked like Marley in terms of their coats. Given the fact he's 8 mo old, you're looking at his adult coat. |

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics Nisha was a puffball when she was really young too. But she never had the long curly hairs around the ears and back like your boy does. Hers was more fluff than long. Her adult coat came in maybe around 4-5 months? Can't really remember...they grow so fast .I think your dog may be a long coat (or at least in between)....I love it though, especially around the ears ! He is a real cutie!I just looked at your boys 'baby photo' in the gallery...it seems his hair was quite curly and long even then. He has grown so much! He will be a handsome boy. I will however pray for you....I cant imagine the time you must spend vacuuming ![]() !

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics LOL, thanks!!!! I think I need to invest in a better brush, the one we have gets filled up in NO time! LOL. I wished they made one we could hook up to a vaccuum! ahaha! It's funny b/c I couldn't imagine Marley being any other way :) |

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics What type of brush do you use? For a dog with a longer coat a slicker brush may be the best option. It really grabs and pulls through the coat more.

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics We have a slicker but think I might need the super big one. LOL. I remember having this mitt type thing for our family dog when I was growing up and it made the hair cling to it b/c of static or something...I just remember brushing our dog down and then a quick run down with this mitt thing and it got so much extra hair that the brush didn't. Man I wish I could remember what that contraption was called! LOL |

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics Try a furminator. I can't believe the amount of hair that I get off of my 2. My baby is a Marley too, but she's a female, she's 8.5 months old.

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics I had looked into the ferminator but it says that it removes the undercoat and not the top coat, but Marley seems to have no top coat!? His entire coat is very very soft..not course at all. Will it work or will it make him bald? LOL |

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics He's a long coat, just not as long as some Long coats. Long coats are typically very soft coated with nice bone :) Wire coats are very coarse coated and have "beard like" coat on their chins etc. Your dog is without a doubt a long coat which is a very common recessive in the breed. Other than being a disqualification in the conformation ring and making him unbreedable there is nothing a normal coated Rott can do that a long coat can't. Get a good comb ( medium, coarse and fine tooth models) and groom him daily and love him to bits!!! He is LOVELY

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics This may be a first in the rottie-world but I had my 10 1/2 yr old girl shaved. Here in NC it is so hot and humid! When we got home she romped around and played and thought she was the most gorgeous dog in the world-she's all into comfort now. Since I've become used to seeing it, she doesn't look funny anymore but has a lot of gray undercoat. They left her hair on her head and legs and she's still as kissable! |

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics no not new. When I was grooming I had 3 long coats that I shaved regularly and when done they looked like "regular" Rottweilers. I also had a male with a smaooth flat coat come in that I'd groom more like a show Golden. he had a very easy care coat unlike the other ones

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics my boy is 6 months old now but for the first few months he had this wavy line down his back and the vet told me that its normal for rotti pups to have that? i've never seen it before. supposedly as the puppy gets older and bigger the wavy hair line will go away, and sure enough as he is 6 months now i see it less and less. |

| Re: Questions about Marley's Coat...with pics I produced a wire in my K litter. Her owners think she's cute, not sure I do LOL There are quite a lot of bearded Rotts but not so many full wires. (a beard is a slight affected dog) I have a website with some example of Rottweiler coats on it. do a search here for coated rottweilers and maybe you can find it. I'm no longer allowed to post the website address
