| Had my little dog to the vet on Saturday and took Maximus into see the people at the office (it's been about 2 months and they couldn't believe how much he had grown) and also get him weighed. He just turned 6 months on May 22nd (he's 27 weeks old Thursday) and they weighed him in at 70 lbs. I never thought he weighed that much. I'm worried that he's growing to fast. Is there any other ones out there that had a male pup weigh this much at 6 months? Did they have any pano problems? I don't want him to have problems with his joints. Just switched him over to Innova Adult on Saturday, and I also want to put him on glucosomine supplement. Any one else do this, and what do you give. Suggestions helpful. Thanks. |

| Re: I can't believe he weighs 70 lbs. What were you feeding him prior to the Innova Adult? Was there any particular reason for Maximus' trip to the vet? Here is a weight scale and depending on his height, his weight is probably normal: Der Rottweiler.com | rottweiler puppy > growing rottweiler's characteristics |

, and now have a set delivery schedule of it to my home . Max didn't need to go to the vet. I had my smaller dog in for her heartworm check, to get her heartworm medicine, and get her yearly shots. The girls at the vet really like Max and they wanted to see how much he's grown. I just wanted to get him weighed because I was curious. I know the chart says for 6 months the average is 77 lbs. I just don't want him to grow too fast and have problems with his joints. Hence then also, my question about the glucosomine for joints since the Innova Adult (not large breed) doesn't have any in it. |

| Re: I can't believe he weighs 70 lbs. Gary was around 65lbs at 6 months, and I too was worried that it was a little too heavy. Now at nearly 9 months he is only 81lbs, and the growing definitely has slowed down. Ever since 8 months he has been lingering at 80lbs, so now I am not worried. Remember that every dog is a little bit different, Max is probably just going through one of his final growth spurts during the major growing part of his puppyhood. After this things will slow down. I didn't deal with pano or anything, but he did have a limp in his front arm for a while. It probably was just growing pains. Gary does have HD pretty bad now, but I don't think that has anything to do with growing patterns. |
