| Thanks for sharing all your stories about your pups!! One thing that I didnt mention is she doesnt just get up to pee, she also poops....I tried one night to ignore her and she then had a nasty poop accident in her crate...I think I'll stick to letting her out once during the night...it beats the alternative....I'm sure she will grow out of this , at least I hope so!! |

| Most pups don't usually need to poop at that age, in the middle of the night. ![]() What are you feeding her? How much are you feeding? How often are you feeding? When does she get her last meal? Has she been checked for worms? How many poops a day is she having? Gina

| Re: puppy wont sleep through the night Hey, thanks for the concern! I mentioned before that she eats twice a day and 4 cups of food total. We feed her Nutro Natural Choice puppy food for large breeds. Shes done eating at 4 pm so she has plenty of time to digest and eliminate...she does not have a uti or worms....she goes to the vet often because of the puppy shots and I have informed the vet of these issues...he says to wait it out for another month and she should grow out of this...she has a clean bill of health. She goes back to the vet this week for a rabies shot so I'll ask the vet again what he thinks. I feel confident that she knows when she has to go so I feel I have to let her out....she has never gotten up just to play..oh and she poops anywhere from 5 to 7 times a day. I feel like she's a baby who's got her days and nights mixed up...I'm hoping this summer when the kids are home she'll stay awake and active all day and save sleeping for the evening!! We'll see! Thanks again! |

| Re: puppy wont sleep through the night I have to agree with Gina, your pup should not need to poop through the night. Is she not pooping before you put her down at night??? From the time we got our pup at 9 weeks to now at close to five months, I can count on one hand the number of times she needed out through the night. Mind you there have been some very early mornings with her but on average she goes down around 9pm and get up between 5 & 6am. |

| Re: puppy wont sleep through the night Boy does she defecate alot usually the norm is about two to three times a day maybe four but she is going alot. You may want to try switching her food to something that she digests a little better some dogs do better on one food than another. |

| Re: puppy wont sleep through the night Pooping 5 to 7 times per day does seem like alot. 4 cups of food seems like an awful lot as well. My girl is about the same age and she gets only 3 cups, but that is of Canidae ALS. Last edited by mamamia1; 05-11-2008 at 10:34 PM. |

| This is a lot of pooping!! ![]() I would get her on a better quality food...less grains more meat. Nutro is a mid-quality food...not bad, but not great either. ![]() Your puppy should be pooping less on a meat based food, as well need to eat less. As you can see the the high grain food is going through her. Read some of the threads and suggestions on the Nutrition forum for a better quality food. Gina
