| I just started puppy classes and saw a 2 3 months malamute and they were huge compared to my little guy. He is 3 months and he seems to be small for his age, I don't know if he was the runt of the litter. There was another rottie/german shepard who was a the same age and he was a little bigger than mine. Would he eventually catch up to his age? How big is a 3 month rottie suppose to be? We will be going to the vet on Friday and will ask the vet the same thing. |

| Re: Puppy growth We had another rottie in our puppy k class and Max was half his size! It used to bother me a bit since the other owners would be making comments about how small Max was. I eventually got over it though. It's not about how big or small your pup is. As long as he's happy and healthy, there's nothing else that matters. He'll catch up to the "others" soon enough. All puppies grow at different rates, yours might just be taking his time, like Max did. Besides, it's best if they grow slowly anyways. All good things come to those who wait ![]() Typically, a male pup should put on about 10lbs a month, but that's a very loose standard. Max was no where close to 30lbs at 3 mos, but he's now 90lbs and almost 10 mos old. How big are his mom and dad? He should fall somewhere in between, give or take.

| Re: Puppy growth Why do you care if your Rottweiler puppy is smaller than a Malamute puppy? Have you seen an adult Malamute? They are not exactly small .... and tend to make my Rottweilers look teeny at most shows. A 3 month old Rott pup is typically about 30lbs .... height and weight can vary with lines. Kristi

| Re: Puppy growth Rogue turned three months old yesterday. She had a vet check up today and she weighs seventeen pounds. To me she looks like she's around eight weeks old. A gentleman at the vet came in with a four month old male rottweiler and he commented on how small Rogue was. I just said I know she's small, her parents are on the smaller side of the standard. I could have replied and said your boy's marking are all wrong. I wasn't interested in having a large bitch, I already have one large male in the house. I know that she's going to be petite, but it doesn't bother me one bit.

| Re: Puppy growth His father weighs 150lbs. I don't know how much he weighs right now, I will find out on Friday. I'm not pushing it for him to grow so quickly, I'm just asking because I am concerned and want to know if it was normal. This is my first time with a pup, all my other dogs were adults. He is getting longer and starting to fill out, his appetitie is pretty good and he's getting so much love at home. He's spoiled. |

| Re: Puppy growth My female is a little on the small side in a lot of people's opinions. At 4 months (we figure she was 4 mths when I rescued her) she was 29lbs and now at 6 months she is 50lbs even. Everybody comments on how small her paws and head are for a rotti, but I'm not looking for a giant, I'll take what I get - her disposition is phenominal and that's all that matters right??? You should never judge your rotti based on the size of another dog, be it the same breed or especially not another breed. Rotti's vary in size quite tremendously - at full maturity they can range from 80-120lbs, so there is A LOT of room for variation! Unless she/he isn't eating/drinking/playing like normal, don't worry about it!!! |

| Re: Puppy growth Rottcrazed- I don't know what shows you have been to but malamutes don't make adult rotties look small. Malamutes have thick coat and the standard for a male is 85lbs. Male Rottweilers are 110-130lbs. I agree about roughly 10lbs per month but as long as they look healthy and sound everything will be alright. If they put too much weight to fast, it is more likely to have Pano, hd as it puts stress on the joints and bones. Chris |

It's true, better for them to grow slow and steady, and male Rottie puppies usually put on about 10 lbs a month...less for female puppies. Gina

| Re: Puppy growth Well, if that is the case then BYB's taking those over also. You can't think of their coat as substance. Their is 2-4in thick for what they are for in cold weather climates. Now all I can go by is standard, the males are about average for a female rottie. Chris |

Wow that's a big Rottie.I don't know about others, but Max has always grown longer, then taller, then his head would catch up. So he'd look like a weiner dog for a bit Right now, he's going through another growth spurt. He looks like a 90lb weiner dog! It's pretty cute. Hopefully his legs will catch up soon. |
