| I have a question: what would be the best way to bring a new rottie baby into the family. i have a 1yr old cockapoo (nutered male) and a 5month old APBT (altered female) Also a 3yr old cat (that IS the ALPHA over both 4 legged and 2 legged family members) both dogs have been in obedience class and soiciallized they get along great (some rough play but no fighting) do any of you think i will have a problem bring another female into the mix. (she will be altered as soon as possible also) also what would be a good way of doing this? i hade thought of getting the new puppy smell on a blanket (like you would do a baby) before i bring her home (in june she will be 8 weeks) and let the others get use to her smell. dont know if that works with dogs but want the transition as smooth as possible. thanks in advance for all your advice. |

| Honestly, I would not be bringing a new puppy into your home just yet. You have two puppies already. The Pitt female is still very young, and has much more training and growing up to do. It's best to have 2 or 3 years between dogs. Also, Rottweilers are a breed that need much attention and training while young (first couple of years) and it's almost impossible to do a good job trying to train 3 puppies at once. You also will have to keep them separated from one another...so the Pitt and Rottie don't bond to each other. You want each puppy to bond to you. Getting another female is a very bad idea. Pitts can be dog aggressive, as well as same sex aggressive. You would have two females that are very close in age...it could mean once they are mature that they will fight...and maybe even try to kill one another. Could you live the rest of their lives having to keep them separated?![]() I really have to question any breeder that would be selling you a puppy in these circumstances. I can't think of any COE that would want a puppy going to a home with two puppies already there, and to allow a same sex combination and breeds the way you plan. Please re-think your choice of getting a Rottweiler puppy for now. If in the next couple of years you plan on getting another dog...make sure it's a male. Though the cockapoo (male) and Rottie may also have problems. ![]() Gina

| Re: bringing a new puppy into the family It's not at all a good idea. You already have two puppies. Why do you feel you want another one? Furthermore, understand that a COE, responsible breeder will not sell you one of his her puppies because you already have two puppies. From your post, you have found someone to sell you a Rottie puppy, but be assured this person is of the BYB variety. You will not want a BYB's puppy and reading thru the postings in Breeding, then Rescue will clearly show you why. Instead of thinking about getting another puppy, your time would be far better directed at helping the two youngsters you have grow up into well socialized, well trained dogs. Call up the person from whom you're thinking of buying a puppy and tell him or her you've changed your mind. |

| Re: bringing a new puppy into the family well right now i keep the dogs separated from each other unless supervised. also they are both crated while i am not around. i give my dogs one on one time now and they are both being trained seperated ( if i get the puppy this will happen with her to) now are you telling me that my female pitt will turn dog agressive as she gets older because i have no problem with her in class or anywhere else i have taken her. alsoone of the reasons i got her altered was because i was told from severel people who raise several dogs at once (including pitts) that soicallizing and altering among other things that i am doing will result in a less dog agressive dog. |

| Your 5 month old Pitt is very much still a puppy...she still has another couple of years of maturing to do. Often when Pitts (and Rotts) reach sexual maturity ...(does not matter if they are spayed)...they may decide they want to kill one another. ![]() You have no idea what things you are still going to face with your Pitt puppy...she has still not finished teething. You still have to get through the teenage stages...and Rottweilers are even more hard headed and pushy then Pitts. Please re-think your plans. Why do you think you need to add another puppy to your home now? when you have 2 puppies? Why not wait till your puppies are all grown up and trained. What will happen if your Pitt does turn dog aggressive? Most Pitt people will warn you about this...it is common in the breed. You can train and socialize all you want...but as your female matures...she may decide that she hates another dog...what will you do?? Gina

| Re: bringing a new puppy into the family so if she hates other dogs i guess my other dog is in grave danger too. and there is no way to change this behavior so in other words i should not have gotten her in the first place and all pitts should be in one dog households. or as most people think not on the face of the earth at all. thanks for the advice it helps alot |

| Re: bringing a new puppy into the family I agree with Gina, truly the cockapoo will never be the problem. Female Rottweilers are tough cookies. They don't take crap off anything. They will be princess of the house under you. A pit female will be the exact same way. I am not even thinking about training them. The cockapoo should have basics down by now and at least have a CGC. If you give more time to the rottie or the cockapoo, your pit will become destructive. Chris |

Not all Pitts are dog aggressive...not all Rotts are aggressive with same sex dogs...but there is a very high change they could be. Why do you want to stack the odds??? ![]() Even if your pup was a female Golden Retreiver, I would tell you not to get a female Rottweiler pup...it's just too close in age and two females. Please do NOT stop listening because it's advice you don't want to hear. Gina
