Ok everybody what do you feed you pup?

I started Rocky on Science Diet but he did like it to much. Then I gave him Beneful and he loved it but thought it had to much fat in it. Right now i'm trying Purina Pro Plan and he's not liking it to much. What do you feed you dog and why?

or you could just save yourself the time of reading through what most of the elitists on this board think and just go with Canidae All Life Stages. you can go to their website and see where it is sold. it is made with human grade materials, and can be fed to all dogs at all stages of life. the best part is that it only cost a couple more dollars per 40 pound bag than so-called "premium foods" that use by-products like eukanuba, etc.

Maybe, just maybe the OP would like to see the variety of foods the members here feed and the reasons why and then come to a decision on his/her own.
Since the OP was feeding SD, Beniful and Purina PP it is clear that there is learning to be done on the part of this owner. Fortunately, they have come to the best place to learn a lot about our breed.

I'm feeding my puppy California Natural Chicken and Rice Puppy. So far so good. I'm feeding it because it is a holistic dog food and it is conviently sold at the Natural dog food store across the street from my home. The price isn't bad either. I wanted to feed Canidae, but they don't carry it.

Nobody carries Canidae here either, but I did find a small pet store who orders me in a bag when I need it. She gets it from her distributor and does not charge me any extra, so if you really want to feed that maybe you can find a pet store who will do this for you?

AT 8 weeks and at the request of the breeder I continued her on Eagle Puppy, then started integrating/switching over to Solid Gold brand "Hundchen Flocken" puppy food.
Now she is almost 5 months old and I have switched her to Solid Gold Wolf Cub (large breed puppy food). My understanding is that it's time to control the rapid growth of my puppy. She is beautiful; her coat shines like a mirror!

I'm feeding Max Orijen Large Breed Puppy. I tried the Canidae but Max didn't do well on it (eye boogies mainly). Figured I'd try the Orijen next because it's grainless and made in Canada. Max is doing well on this, so I'm going to keep him on this for the next few months. Once he's stopped his major growing, I'll look into something else. I'm also considering raw, or raw and kibble.

I feed Canidae ALS. It's decently priced and both my dogs like it ok. They are both picky so I stir in some fat free plain yogurt and pumpkin. The yogurt also helps reduce the horrible, knock you on the floor gas my rottie has...

I am also feeding Orijen Large Breed Puppy. Gary is doing GREAT on this food. I like it because he has no eye boogers, way less gas, and much smaller poops (because it is grainless).

Gary started on Canidae ALS, but had horrible gas and his stool was just never firm. Then we tried Evanger's Duck and Pheasant formula. Stool got better but he still had bad gas and eye boogers. Now on the Orijen it seems that all problems have gone away. Plus his coat is super soft and shiney, I love this food.

Eagle Pack puppy until four months then Eagle Pack adult until she's ten months. Then we'll switch to the home made that we feed to our adults. I would have gone with home made from the start but there are some really good packaged foods out there now that were just not available the last time we had a puppy. BTW, we do home made because one of our adults has major food allergies.

My adults are fed raw with the occasional adding in of Natures variety Instinct or EVO. My puppy is being fed Canidae with alittle raw added in. she loves the Canidae but isn't a picky eater. You have to find a food that works best for your pup. I would read up on the different foods and you could also discuss it with your vet. Some grain free foods contain alot of protein and if fed consistantly over time can damage kidneys- so I was told my my friend who is a vet tech. correct me if I am wrong.

I tried Canidae ALS with Brinks. He couldn't keep a firm stool on it. I switched him to California Natural Lamb Puppy and he's doing amazing on it.
