Icon9 Gummy urine on inside of puppy's back legs

I've had my female rottie pup home for 3 days now.. shes absolutely gorgeous! very smart, and has had no accidents in the house yet. (once out on our wooden deck - but the pee went down the crack of the deck - it was hilarious).. but i do have a question, since this is our first rottweiler:

she seems to have like .. a .. "gummy" liquid on the inside of her back legs.. it smells like urine.. and she does clean herself quite often.. she doesnt really go pee overly frequently, infact the tiems are in sync with when she drinks.. etc.. shes regular... i just wasnt sure about this caked on residue.. if it was something i should be getting checked out.. shes 7 weeks old

Re: Gummy urine on inside of puppy's back legs

It sounds like puppy vaginitis - very common. It usually clears up by itself, and you can help by gently wiping her off with a cotton ball moistened with warm water to help keep her clean.

That said, every puppy should have a well-puppy checkup at the vet's office within a few days of being brought home. If she has not had this done yet, make an appointment and let the vet give her a good looking over to make sure everything is good.

Congratulations on your new puppy! What's her name?

I agree. My girl has had this off and on since we got her. The vet said just to keep her clean. It's especially yucky after a trip to the beach, but with a little warm water it cleans up pretty easy.

Have fun!

Re: Gummy urine on inside of puppy's back legs

Puppy urine usually has a lot of crystals and access to plenty of water throughout the day is a must. I have a bitch puppy that had to be put on antibiotic for puppy vaginitis, so definitely ask you vet about this.

puppy vaginitis is quite common and usually comes and goes until they get their first heat.
i also agree to have puppy check up done soon to make sure all is ok.
congrats on new pup!

Re: Gummy urine on inside of puppy's back legs

eek.. well im glad to hear that its very common anyway.... i will have the vet look at her for sure.. and we will be getting her fixed too when shes ready.. she seems VERY intelligent.. she'll be out in the yard playing and ill say to her "hurry up".. and she turns to sniffing around for a spot to potty.. its beautiful.. then comes running over to me.. but has a real biting habbit.. she starts licking like crazy.. but it turns to nipping.. i know shes not beign aggresive in that situation.. but it doesnt feel too nice lol she's great though.. ive been reading alot about puppy biting on here.. and this forum is very helpful! thanks everybody!
