Small Scars... Me and my wife just got our first Rottie yesterday, and she is absolutely beautiful. It took us awhile but we found a good breeder with years of experience showing and breeding. We chose our pup based on her conformation and personality. It was a hard choice as the litter had several good pups but after 2 and a half hours we choose our pup. When we got her home we were going over her with a fine tooth comb again looking for any flaws as we would like to show her. We thought she was flawless (well in our eyes) until we got to her chin and lips. We notice a few very small puppy bites, more than likely from romping with her brothers and sisters, with little scabs. They are not too noticeable at all but my wife is scared that they will leave scars and only get bigger as she ages. We have only ever had rescue dogs prior to this so we never really concerned ourselves with such little things, we were more concerned about emotional scars. Should we be concerned about these marks or will they just disappear as they heal or with age? Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Small Scars... One of the reasons to acquire a puppy from a COE breeder is because he or she is there for you, to answer your questions whenever you have them. That person is a resource for you. You are in a partnership with that person. Why don't you telephone the breeder of your puppy and ask him or her what you asked us?

Re: Small Scars... We already called and spoke with our breeder and she said "Small puppy bites will heal and should not be noticeable as the pup ages". I just always like to play it on the safe side, multiple opinions are always better than one and this seemed to be the group of folks to ask. :)

Re: Small Scars... I wouldn't worry about it, especially if they are really small. When my guy was 4 months he got hurt doing something (I don't know how) and had a scab on his muzzle. I thought it would scar and the hair wouldn't grow back and it would be there forever. It only took about a month for it to go away and now at 7 months it is completely gone and you can't even tell anything had ever happened. You can also have it checked out by a vet if you really are that worried about it though.

| Re: Small Scars... I wouldn't worry about it if they were small injuries.....my last litter I felt sorry for one boy as his sister was really relentless in chewing on his ears....and he's fine now!! I have actually had major injuries on young dogs that were otherwise stitched or stapled closed and they have healed entirely. I had one young bitch who torqued under (so she thought) a barbed wire fence and sliced her ear in half......microstitched and you would never even see the scar. My one champion bitch was squirrel hunting and somehow sliced laterally up one of her front legs about 2-3" laceration....stapled closed and you would never know she was injured. I wouldn't worry too much about it....I have actually seen rotts and/or other breeds in the working group in the show ring with shaved areas/stitches etc. I overheard one judge comment that its a working breed, injuries are bound to occur.
