Lightbulb Puppy not eating all his food!

Should I worry if my pup doesn't eat all of his food? How long should I leave his food out if he hasn't eaten everything. There are times when he does eat everything but today he didn't.

Re: Puppy not eating all his food!

How many times a day are you feeding? Try smaller amounts more often. If his weight is good then he is getting what he needs. Is it the same food the breeder had him on? If you switched it maybe he doesn't like it as much. Just some thoughts...

You will also see puppies going through growth spurts where they appear to be eating everything in sight and still skinny then a "resting" phase where they don't seem to be eating much and even leaving some.

Re: Puppy not eating all his food!

I am feeding him 3x a day and no he is not eating the food from the breeder. He did however liked it the first time I gave him. If it continues then I would have to switch back to what the breeder was giving him. His weight is ok. I will keep u posted how it all goes.

Thanks,
Mayra

Re: Puppy not eating all his food!

As for how long you should give him usually 10 to 15 minutes is long enough. Also as long as he is a good weight I would not worry about it but if he is leaving more than eating every day then have him checked out. My older dog would not eat when I got her at 4 months old so the vet where I work put her on a long term antibiotic and wow did she start eating and to this day if she doesn't eat you know something is wrong as she is a food hound. but I'm not saying there is something wrong with your puppy as many dogs go through this sometime as a youngster were they dog eat so well.
