Icon11 How long does pup have to sleep in my room?

I wanted to know how long before I can have my pup sleep in his own room. When is the best time to do that. I would like to have my room to myself again.

Re: How long does pup have to sleep in my room?

the answer is when YOU feel like not having the dog in your room; the pup will adjust.

Personally I like having my dogs in the room. I don't let them on the bed but don't mind them sleeping along the side of the bed on the floor.

Re: How long does pup have to sleep in my room?

My rottie pup still sleeps in my room and she will be 5 on 4/22 lol, she and her dobie brother sleep in their baskets one on each side of the bed, the good side of this is they wake me if they need bathroom in the night, bad side they both snore bad, lottie (the rottie) by far the noisiest lol.

Until the pup can sleep through the night without having to go potty, usually till about 10-12 weeks. When we brought our pup home, he slept in a small crate beside our bed for the first 2-3 weeks...and used the crate downstairs during the day. Once I knew he could sleep through the night fine....he stayed in his downstairs crate...near our other dog.

I don't like our dogs sleeping in our room either....our cats sleep in our room...and there is too much action going on, with the dogs and cats during the night to get a good nights sleep.

I also noticed that he doesn't sleep through the night without whining, so I know I have to take him out. When will he be able to sleep all night, he will be 10 weeks this Thurs. I feel like I have a newborn all over again. I am so tired. Not to mention dealing with my kids also.

Re: How long does pup have to sleep in my room?

I used to want to take my dog out of the room at night. He sleeps in his crate in our room and the sound of his collar jingling every time he would scratch or move just seemed to keep us awake for hours!

Then I took his collar off at night. Problem solved, and now I don't have any problem with him sleeping in my room! BF still thinks we should eventually put his crate somewhere else, but I think our dog likes being part of the pack in here with us.

Well, you DO have a newborn. Did you choose to bring this puppy home, or did someone drop him on you?

It IS tiring. Lucky for you, puppies grow up a lot faster than children, so hang in there and this, too, shall pass. Pretty soon he'll be all grown up and you'll be wondering where your baby puppy went.

How can I get my 9 week rotti to sleep all night? At what time should be his last meal? He does take naps during the day. I also notice him yawning. At what age will he be able to sleep through the night.

You are expecting too much of a baby puppy. You need to take him out during the night to toilet. Like a human baby, baby puppies don't have control over their bowels and bladders. He will wake up if he needs to toilet.
As he matures he will sleep through the night.

Have you spoken to the breeder of your pup for advice on what to expect of a baby puppy. Baby puppies need plenty of sleep, again, just like a human baby.

Re: your question about how long the pup should sleep in your room at night. All my dogs sleep in my room. My rescue girl is 11yo and she sleeps in her bed right next to my bed. My 7yo girl sleeps on my bed and has done every night since she was a baby pup. It's a matter of personal choice. I like my dogs to be where I am so I'm quite happy to have them in my bedroom at night.

Re: How long does pup have to sleep in my room?

Our 17-week old sleeps in our room. Just this week she needed to get up and go poo in the middle of the night two different nights, although she had been sleeping through for several weeks. It's good to have her sleeping nearby as a pup just because, who knows when she might get sick ??

That said, we LOVE having her sleep in our room and intend to keep her close always.

Re: How long does pup have to sleep in my room?

I discovered ear plugs when Beau was a puppy. I could still hear a little bark or whine through the ear plugs if he needed to go potty, but it would block out his collar jingling and dancing around in his crate(couldn't have a bed in there or he would eat it).

Re: How long does pup have to sleep in my room?

Personally, I don't mind having our dog sleep in our room..... we live in a one room studio anyways, so it's not like we have an option....she sleeps in her crate under our bed (our bed is TALL), with her crate door open, so she can sleep wherever, but she prefers her crate..... however, she does sleep through the night, so it's not a problem. With such a small space, we need to make sure that it works out for everybody. We even have a houseguest now, so it's crowded!! 3 people and a Rott...haha, but it's working! She gets lots of exercise through the day so she's good and tired when the moon comes out. When we move to a house, I think I will still let her sleep in our room..... we'll see..... I think you should do whatever works for you.
