Puppy Whining I started crating my 9 week old male only when I am not there and when It's time for bed. He will not stop whining at night is it just a matter of getting him tired enough or does it just take time? Any suggestions would be good I need to get some sleep

Re: Puppy Whining Not only puppies, but also adult dogs tend to do that if they want attention, feel lonely, need something etc. Mine had a phase and didnt stop whining and it almost drove me crazy. It makes you want to go out and calm him down, but mostly that is exactly what they want. It may sound cruel, but if the pup is not hungry, thursty, doesnt need to pee/poo etc then just ignore him. After a while when he stops whining go to him and praise him. This has worked wonders with mine and after a few days or weeks this behavior will stop. Its like you are rewarding him for not whining. (I read that in a book about Rottweilers). Good luck and patience.. puppies are just like babies, you need a LOT of patience

Re: Puppy Whining My pup is also whining but not too bad. If we give her adequate stimulation, playtime, outdoors, etc. before bed, she usually whines about 10 minutes after we turn out the light, and then she goes to sleep. I've had good luck in her sleeping through the night, though she's usually up between 6 and 7. When she wakes up at 6-7, she starts whining. I usually get up and take her outside for bathroom, not because she's whining, but because I need to get up and start the day too. Is there any way to avoid her seeing this as a response to her whining, and thus not encourage it?

Re: Puppy Whining my puppy looooves whining. this is how the day goes.. i wake up at 5 - take her for a walk/play with her for an hour and a half. then i get ready and someone else watches her while i get ready for work. i play with her for another 10 minutes before i leave.. and then throw a treat or two in her crate to get her to go in. she does and shes fine - no whining. everybody leaves the house around the same time.. so all of a sudden the house is quiet. 4 hours later, someone gets home for lunch.. lets her out to go to the bathroom etc.. back in the crate after an hour.. another 4 hours, i get home and i play with her basically all night, or until she lays down and wants to quit.. at which point i move her to her crate (usually aroun 7).. i wake her up around 1130 for her last outside run of the day - she always goes.. but when i put her back in and i go to bed.. its continuous whining!! never stops.. i end up fallign asleep after like an hour because of her whining.. i tried putting a nightlight by her.. but nothing.. its drving me crazy
