When do I switch from 28/14 to 24/12?

Will someone chime in and advise me when to switch from higher pro/fat to a lower combination. I ask because my pup is off a substantially sized stud.....thanks in advance.

What food are you feeding? The protein in the food must be from meat not corn and grains.
How old is your pup? How much does he weigh right now?
I raised my last pup on All Life Stages Canidae and Adult Innova...he never ate puppy food. Grew slow and steady with no problems and never went through the gawky, awkward stages.

He is 14 weeks right now and weighs approximately 30-35lbs. I hope this helps.

What makes you think you need to lower the protein or fat amounts?

Well BM the breeder recommended this; being that the parents are substantial in size, as to slow down his growth.

I don't see a need to switch to a lower protein food. Your pup is going to grow as nature intended. The only thing you can control is his weight. Keep him lean and feed a kibble that gets all or most of the protein from a named meat source. I would suggest doing some reading in the nutrition forum-there is a wealth of information there.
Good Luck

He sounds like a good weight to me. Is your pup eating the Wolf Cub?
I would ask your breeder when to to switch to the adult brand that has less protein and less fat.

There are so many other good foods around to try your pup on. It's always good to try a few.

Like I have said in my other posts - Breeders Choice Pinnacle Chicken and Peak are recommended for puppy & adult. I keep the protein/fat about 40/20 - and watch their weight.

You have to do what you are comfortable with, & consider what your breeder suggests - as nutrition / diet specifications may be a condition in your puppy contract.

Re: When do I switch from 28/14 to 24/12?

IMO there is no exact 'correct' protein or fat percentage.

If you take a species appropriate diet (such as raw feeding), the food is the same for all life stages, just that pups require more relative to their body weight and elderly dogs require less. Interestingly a staple of raw feeding such as a chicken wing would probably be close to 60% protein when dehydrated.

Like Makjamz, I feed a high meat protein/grain free kibble - the only thing to note on these is that some have Ca/Ph levels that are not necessarily suitable for a young pup.

Re: When do I switch from 28/14 to 24/12?

My purpose of asking this question was to ascertain different results and the intent behind feeding these contrasting ratios.

Makjamz, I have found that I rather follow what the experienced are doing in the begininng then to experiment myself.

Thanks everyone!
