Re: marrow bones for pup

Marley loves them, & she is 6 months old. Though, they do give her diarrhea, so I have to scoop out most of the marrow from the middle.

Re: marrow bones for pup

I get my marrow bones from the local butcher in the section 'Pet Meat'. They cost $1.00 per bone and are quite large in size. You can get them cut in half, or do what i do and get them 'blessed' (cut horozontily and verticaly - you get 4 pieces and the morrow is exposed) if they are huge.

Re: marrow bones for pup

Personally I prefer to give brisket bones to my dogs, there is no danger to the tooth enamel ( which can occur with Marrow bones ), they also act as a flossing agent for the teeth and gums. The brisket bones are completely devoured, and also a great chewing exercise for the dog.

Re: marrow bones for pup

I buy them at the grocery store, and Sasha LOVES them!!! Lately though, I've been very disappointed with the choice.... they used to be knuckle or marrow ( ok, they might still be, maybe I'm just stupid...) but now they are short and small and she chews them up really fast! They are still labeled "beef soup bone: but they are just different. Usually she could work on them for a while, and then I would freeze them, and if the marrow was out, I could put some peanutbutter inside so she would "rediscover" them. I cruised 5 different stores today, and ended up with the small ones again

I should def go to the butcher's next time, or the meat market. Is it more expensive there? I can't really buy a whole lot at once, because we don't have a freezer.... only a box in the fridge, which is super small!!!!!
