Help... peeing everywhere.

I have an 18 week old male who has been housebroken for a long time now. He sleeps in our bedroom on a doggy bed on the floor. If we say it's allowed he will sit on the bed with us to watch TV, etc. Every morning, he wakes up to feed and go out around 8am. This morning I woke up to him peeing all over my feet ON our bed! It was earlier than he ever wakes up and he had gone out as usual the night before - actually even later than usual as I had gone to sleep late. I led him straight outside and then put him in his crate while I cleaned up. The day progressed as usual and then just now I walked downstairs with him to get a drink and he runs into my living room and pees all over my couch before I could even say a word! I am so confused, as these are not little pees as if to mark, they are full pees. Also, he had just gone out about an hour earlier! He has been taught to scratch at the door to go out and he has been doing this for months now. I don't understand what is going on today... but I hope it does not continue or it will be back to full on crate training for him and I thought I was done with that. What do I do? What is going on?

Re: Help... peeing everywhere.

My advice is to take the dog to the vet. He may have a UTI and they're painful. He could also be marking but you need to firstly ensure he doesn't have a health problem.

Re: Help... peeing everywhere.

from what I understand, signals of a UTI are short little pees, where very little comes out and they are frequently squatting. This was not that... it was a full pee and it was this morning and then tonight, no issues throughout the day. I will keep that in mind though and keep watching him. Any other suggestions? I'm so at my wits end right now... hand-washing a bed AND a couch in one day is very hard.

Yes if this continues by all means take him to the vet. Now for months is already time for him to know the defferance and palce where to pee. Has anything new been introduced, or any thing that might make him feel negelected or inferior? You have got to remember especially if you have had him since 8 weeks that he has grown what little bit used to things a certain way, also eventhough rotts grow in size quick they mature slowly especially the males. Well wish you the best of luck. let us know how he's doing.

Re: Help... peeing everywhere.

I don't know if that is necessarily true.......my 6.5 month old went off to a dog show a couple of weeks ago and (living on the farm this wasn't something we necessarily practiced....I KNOW MY FAULT) but we had a heck of a time getting her to go potty ON A LEASH. Anyway the long and the short of it is that she did come home at 10pm with a UTI and off to the vet we went the next day after 5-6 large potty accidents in the house. It was bad to the point that she was wearing a pair of bitch britches with a diaper inside and we were not only taking her outside each 1-2 hours but were also changing the diaper that frequently as well. They did a urinalysis and lo and behold.

These were larger "full pees" as well, although with other girls we have had UTI's in the past that we simply the frequent squatting with little to no urine coming out.

I would take him to the vet and have a UTI ruled out for sure

Another thing....just personal preference on my part too....but I think I would be keeping a pup of his age in a crate still.......I don't know but I think that sometimes we get lulled into a false sense of trust and then awaken one morning to find a whole roll of toilet paper shredded. A lot can happen while you are sleeping......just a suggestion but at his age I think I would still be crating!!

Let us know how the vet appt goes!!

Re: Help... peeing everywhere.

yup, so went to the vet and got checked out... he does NOT have a UTI... sigh! Good news yes, but I'm still just confused. No accidents have happened since that day, but then again I went back to taking him outside every hour. My vet believes that he is just approaching what would be equivalent to a human's "terrible twos" and that this is normal puppy behavior. My breeder said it seems a little early for that, but it is quite possible he may be beginning his "testing" phase now. Fortunately, he begins puppy kindergarten next week, so hopefully his phase will be put on halt!

Bongo sleeps on the floor in our bedroom with the door closed. Bathroom door and closet doors are closed and his cage blocks off the other half of the bedroom. So there isn't really anything for him to destroy. He's not allowed on the bed and won't jump up unless we let him.... except for that lovely morning where he peed on my feet.
