Ratio age/weight, weight gain?

Hi everyone. Just wanted to know if anyone could tell me how much weight a Rottie puppy should gain each month? I'm guessing 10 -15 pounds?

Also, can enyone provide a rough estimate on the average growth rate of a Rottweiler. I found this one on some Yahoo forum, but it dosn't seem accurate since some people were saying that their dogs are way under this scale:

Weight Increment
Age /
Weeks / grams,g / pounds, lbs
1.......650-900 g .........1-2 lbs
2.......900-1400 g ....... 2-3 lbs
3.......1300-1900 g ..... 3-4 lbs
4.......2100-2900 g ..... 5-7 lbs
5.......3000-4000 g ..... 7-9 lbs
6.......4000-5000 g ..... 9-11 lbs
Is this the right weight gain or? And what after the 6th feek (3....4 months)

I'm asking this since my female rottie is (I think, really small compared to her age) She's 10 weeks now and around 17lbs. When I got her at 7 weeks, she was 8lbs. She was eating IAMS puppy for large breed but I changed it to Canidae...it's been a week now.

Please, if anyone knows about this, help!

She sounds like not too bad a weight for a female. You must remember that females will never be as big as males, and they will not grow as much and gain weight as fast as males. Usually Rottweiler puppies should gain on average about 10 lbs per month...females may gain less. Some months they will gain more than 10 lbs and some months they may gain less.

The most important thing is slow and steady growth. The average Rottweiler male puppy...at 4 months is often a bit less then 40 lbs or around 40 lbs...at 5 month around 50 lbs, 6 month 60lbs,etc....till about 9 months of age...then they tend to slow down and gain weight and grow slower.

Genetics is a big part of it...and depends on how the sire and dam grew as well as grandsire and grandam.

Since your pup came from a BYB, it's hard to know the pedigree and the history for your pup. Make sure that she is worm free also. Worms tend to affect their growth and ability to absorb nutrition from their food.

Re: Ratio age/weight, weight gain?

vom keisser wappen has a pretty good growth chart.

Vom Keiser Wappen - German Rottweiler Puppy And Dog Growth Chart

I always worried my first rottie was not growing like he should. I got him when he was 6 weeks old and weighed like 5 lbs. It seems like all the sudden he hit a growth spurt and grew like a weed. When he was 10 months old he weighed 120lbs and was like a train coming at you. I would run him about 3 miles every other day 10 minutes after he ate then half a cup of food after the run to replinish lost nutrients and to repair muscles broken down from the run. He was a great dog. Like bruno's mom said make sure she is free of worms. My 6 wk rottie had them which was slowing growth. Worms take all the nutrients from the food the dog needs.

What was the reasoning for running him for 3 miles 10 minutes after he ate? Did YOU run 3 miles 10 minutes after you ate? Makes no sense as far as proper workout training. No good exercise info I have ever read recommends running (people OR dogs) right after a full meal.

keith3582..exercising deep chested breeds such as rotts so soon before and after meals is a recipe for bloat.....potentially deadly.

it wasnt a full meal and he was fine. yes i did run 3 miles and sorry that 1 was supposed to be a 4 so it was 40. It was an endurance thing and he could do it better than me.

Endurance is good, but I would wait longer after a meal..even a partial meal. Some of us have put AD's (running 12 miles) on our dogs, and I would just suggest not to do much running with a dog even with 40 minutes of a meal. I would not feed a dog until at least an hour AFTER any long run (or any real strong physical activity).

Well,
we had our third visit to the vet yesturday for her second round of shots. (I decided to give her all the basic shots, plus the dog cough, Leptospirosis and Rage. We'll have another visit in a month for her to get the third round of basic shots, second round of Leptospirosis and the only shot for the Rage. I'm really happy with the way they administer the shots, after this it will be every 3 years.) The vet clinic is actualy a Regional Vet. Hospital, on the down side: each time we visit we deal with a different Doctor.

Moreover, Anya at 12weeks showed to be 19.36 pounds and in very good health. Whitch means that she gained around 9 pounds from a month ago when at 8weeks she had 10.5 pounds. Like most of you here, the Vet. anwsered my concerns of her being too small. He said that as long as she's healthy and growing at a steady paste it's all good, plus not all dogs grow the same.

Finaly, and most importantly... :) He couldn't detect the heart murmur that was estimated to be of 2- or 3- when she was 7&8 weeks of age. Just to make sure, he called in another Vet to listne, and she comfirmed, Anya's heart murmur is no longer present!!!! I was sooo happy!
