| Re: Rear Dew Claws Samson still has his rear dew claws. You can remove them if you want when you get the rottie spayed/neutered. My vet suggested that, but Samson's neuter was paid for by the humane society at a low cost clinic in Harrisonburg, VA (long story). Samson's don't seem to bother him or get caught on things.

Re: Rear Dew Claws Jade also has her rear dew claws, when she gets spayed in September she is getting them removed that way we dont have to put her under anesthesia more than once. Depends on what you do with your dog, but I have heard that they can tear and cause the dog some pain.

Re: Rear Dew Claws Thanks for the info. I don't think he will be going under for a long time, so we will have to see what happens til then. I just hope they don't get caught on anything as he is my first one with them.

Re: Rear Dew Claws My 2 year old mix from the humane society has them, and actually on one of his legs he has double. He has gotten them caught on things only a few times in the couple years i've had him. Also make sure to keep them trim because they grow in a circular type motion and will grow into himself if you don't.

Re: Rear Dew Claws Static didn't have them on the rear, but had them on both his front paws. We had them removed last month when we had him neutered. We decided to get them done as he had scratched people with them by jumping up originally (which he doesn't do anymore) but he also occasionally got them caught in the wool lining of his winter bed. We thought, if he can have that happen, what if he catches them on something that doesn't give - instant agony!! He has had no problems since the removal. We too decided to wait until he was neutered, to limit the times under anesthesia - we even pushed the neutering up a month or so, due to him having a paw infection that needed examining under anesthesia. And before we had them removed, we had to clip them three times as much as his other claws - we called them his raptor claws, as they were razor sharp!
