new to the forum, questions about how much my 11 week old female rottie should weigh

i am new to the forum, so hello to everyone. we got an 11 week old female rottie at home. this is our 4th rott. we just put one down 3 weeks ago, and were heartbroken, so we got another one. this is my first female. i know females tend to be a little smaller, but she seems rather scrawny. she only weighs 10 1/2 pounds. the vet seemed a little concerned. she came from a very reputable breeder. 3 cincinnati bengals have gotten their rotts from this breeder. other than being small, she is doing great. how much should she be weighing right now?

She is definitely small and too small for my "taste". What did the vet say?

Why don't you share your concerns with your puppy's breeder? He or she should be the very first person you contact with whatever concerns you have. That's one of the reasons you work with a COE breeder--that person is there whenever you need help or have questions or concerns.

I don't understand how the fact some football players got dogs from a breeder makes him or her "very reputable."

Griz (female) is 13 lb and a few oz. at 9 1/2 weeks---vet says she is a good weight for her size. Her sire and dam are both within the Rottweiler standards and, if genetics mean anything, I suspect she will be, as well. Your pup does seem to be a bit on the light side and if your vet is concerned, I would be too.

She seems a little light for an average Rott pup at that age, but not being able to see her or feel her, it is hard to say.

My girls, who are all on the smaller end of the scale, at 11-12 weeks were about 19-22lbs. I think Jager may have been a little closer to 25lbs, but she topped out weight wise at 80lbs.

Make sure they worm her and if the breeder did, do it again just to be safe.

Agreed. Do you even know what a reputable COE breeder is?
Please tell me you did not buy this pup from Kimbertal Kennels?
Sounds just like them.

Your pup is on the light side, a 7-8 week old pup should weigh that much.
She may need worming and some good food, or there may be other problems with her?

Do some reading on the Breeding Forum, read all of the "stickies"...this should give you an idea of what a reputable breeder is.

First of all, the fact that 3 sportsmen bought from this breeder raises huge "red" flags to me rather than impress me. If the breeder is selling pups based on this type of brag rather than on the merits, titles, temperament and health certifications of the sire and dam, you should have run from them.

That being said, this pup seems to be at about 1/2 to 2/3 of what I would consider normal weight for a pup her age. Most of our pups will gain 8 - 10 lbs per month for their first 8 - 10 months of life.

Did you see the sire and dam of this pup? What size were they? And I don't mean what size did the breeder say they were, I mean if you personally saw them.

Has the pup been dewormed? Was a fecal done? What type of food are you feeding her?

And I do not want to raise unnecessary concerns, but I would probably also get her checked out by a certified cardiologist. Sometimes a heart malfunction will have a lot to do with the weight gain and size of a puppy. Were both parents heart certified by a canine cardiologist?
