Hiccups

My dog is still a pup and he hiccups a lot. He hiccups before going to bed, after he romps, and shortly after he eats. I read on other forums and talked to other people who have had puppies about his size and their pups do so too.

One person said that puppies eat and drink so often and so quickly that the esophagus and stomach fills with air from time to time and triggers the hiccup response. Is this the case?

When Tank got his shots (Tank hiccuped the first night I had him) I asked the vet to check for anything wrong, more particularly his breathing. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.

Re: Hiccups

very common for pups to have hiccups.
usually by 6 months, it becomes more uncommon.
have fun and enjoy the new pup!

Re: Hiccups

Sounds normal to me. I would be concerned if it was causing your pup to throw up or other issues. But if it is just a case of him getting them several times a day, just video tape it (cause it is kinda funny ) and enjoy your pup.

Re: Hiccups

Yes they are common our pup Diego is 5 months old today and he still gets them, they are getting less often but it used to happen a lot when he was younger.

Re: Hiccups

We always say "it's growing time" when they hiccup. Seems like almost all puppies go through this phase. Nothing to worry about.

My 10 wk old, Tex, also gets the hiccups all the time! I started to worry about it but I asked my vet and he said it was normal so I quit worrying!

Re: Hiccups

Oh! yes, My 15 week old Meeka gets them all the time, and some times they make her get the zoomies(she runs around like a manic). Funniest thing to watch.
