| Controlled Growth puppy food Hi, I'm new to the forum, but not to owning a rott. My first baby grew way to tall. She was almost 30 inches tall. I want my other baby to be a normal size rott. I researched dog foods and nutro is the only company who has anything like it. I know alot of you hate nutro. Is it a scam. I'm not concerned with the price of the food as long as it is worth it. I have been on site after site, and am going in circles. Does anyone know what is different in the food that it slows the growth down. Someone said something about less protein but I can't remember who or where I read it. Thanks Jeanne |

| Re: Controlled Growth puppy food The idea of controlled growth is to allow the connective tissue development to keep pace with bone growth, not to determine adult size. Genetics determine the size a dog matures tot, not food. That said, there are different schools of thought on how much protein a growing puppy needs. Many recommend a high quality "all life stages" food, such as Canidae, others recommend a high quality puppy food (not large breed, but regular). I raised my puppy on Solid Gold Puppy Food (NOT large breed puppy food) because her breeder recommended 28% protein, which is higher than the all stages foods. She is about 23" and 79 lbs at 18 months - just what her genetics indicated she would be. The most important things are 1) to make sure your puppy is getting the full scope of high quality nutrients he/she needs to develop properly, which is provided by using a premium food; and 2) make sure NOT to overfeed. Feeding a good food and keeping your puppy lean are the two best ways to ensure steady, regulated growth and give him/her the best chance of developing a healthy body. |
