| to socialize or not to soocialize? We recently acquired a male rottie aged 2.5 months. I originally thought that he would need to be socialised extensively but after reading training methods on ???????? I'm not sure what i should do. They specifically say that only the owner should be involved in the pups life and it should not be petted by ANYONE else. I can't believe that this would be fair and suitable way for bringing up my adorable pup but ???????? appears to have 40 something years experience and an extensive catalog of video manuals... Any ideas about this? |

| Re: to socialize or not to soocialize? you need to socialize your pup with other people including kids, handicaped. any strange noises all kinds of animals.. If you dont you will have an unstable pup on your hands, Chopper (my American Bulldog) wasnt socialized well and I regret it to this day, he is good with everyone he meets, but its my fault I dont trust him 110% since it was me that didnt socialize him, I would enroll your guy in puppy class ASAP so he can meet other dogs, and people. Take him everywhere with you.. Socializing your dog doesnt take their protective instint away

| Please disregard the load of crap you have been reading. Just read the "stickies" here about the Importance of Socialization. If you want a pup/dog that is well rounded with a good temperment...you MUST socialize it. If you want a pup/dog that is afraid of everything and bites without thinking....then don't socialize it. Socialization and training are what makes a dog good. Gina

| Re: to socialize or not to soocialize? I agree; your dog needs to be socialized as much as you can do it. take him with you wherever dogs are allowed to go, and get him into obedience classes. Have him get used to as many situations as you can, and get him to meet as many new people as you can. A well socialized, well trained Rottweiler is an asset to the entire breed!
